The name for our on-line magazine is............

After several weeks of thought I have decided on the name for our new on-line E-Zine.

My conditions?
I wanted something simple, catchy and a name the conveyed the overall focus and goal of the magazine.

So who won?
Well it is a good thing that Brian Edington did not leave the forums. He won the contest with his entry "To The Point"! It was also selected by many other members, so it seamed like a popular choice and it conveys my style of writing.

So he gets a knife from my personal collection, a Spyderco Pro Venator with custom embellishing by Gary Blanchard in the shape of an Eagle!

So congratulations to Brian!

And look for the FREE trial issue in the next few days.
The Trial issue will be a scaled down version of the actual magazine. After the trial issue comes out we will start taking subscriptions for the REAL version to be released on January 1st. The real version will be $29.95 for 12 issues the magazine will be available 100% on-line.

So why should you get To The Point?

Each issue will be stuffed with information you guys want. No fluff and no BS. Yes I read the mags too and I want the real info, just like you.
You want pictures?
Unlike the magazines we are not limited to space, so you will get lots of pics and views. Also, depending on the success of the magazine, we will add 3-D views and video. Imagine seeing a new knife and being able to rotate it to any view right on your monitor or watching one of our already famous knife tests! And as new technologies come out we will add those too.

Unlike the magazines, we will be able to respond very quickly to new products. Manufacturers will be able to showcase their products within days of there arrival rather than waiting months to just get a chance to be in a rag. We will show EVERY new knife that comes our way in the very next issue or we can update a current issue! You can't do that with a regular print magazine.

And when we visit a show you will get the inside scoop in the very next issue. No more waiting months!

Also you will have on-line access to ALL previous issues! No magazine will send you ALL previous issues when you subscribe.

We will also have contests just for subscribers each month!

And just like I did with the forums you will get more features added as they become available.

The trial issue will have the following features.
  • SpeedTech Knives
  • The Internet and how it impacts our industry
  • AKTI - American Knife and Tool Institute - Our NRA!
  • Net Knife Dealers
  • Knives in the movies - Good/Bad and really Damn Ugly
  • Knife Test - Busse -vs- Cold Steel
  • What's New!

So look for the trial issue of To The Point in the next few days!

I think I speak for at least a few when I say "Ahhhhh! We're paying for this?"

Okay, okay, it's a great service. But come on guys, what happened to "Educate. Promote. Inform." You did call AKTI "our NRA," right? I thought that's what BF was here for. You have some real devoted members on this site, and some who are new but getting there. The obvious devotion of all the members is in part because of the wonderful FREE service the Forums offer us.

Let's keep it that way!?

TANSTAAFL applies. Mike will be getting my $30ish soon, prolly this week. Make loot payable to BF, or "World of Weapons"?

Jim

The only question I have is why so much($29.95)? One would think that an online magazine would be cheaper than a paper rag. Just curious.

Joe

Make it payable by card through the store, Mike. I'm ready!

About $2.50 an issue isn't bad. I'll subscribe.

Gator: you forget, the forums are a free service. And I believe the magizine is raising funds to help keep the forums that way. Remember, a huge website isn't free, nor is a server, nor is knife testing... It costs money to keep all these things running.
Sincerely,
Adam

Well said, Adam.

The forums will remain free. But unfortunately, this site doesn't pay for itself, even though there is advertising and sales through the store, it's not even remotely covering the expenses.

You have to do what you have to do if you want to survive. If you want the forums to stay open, we have to find a way to make it at least pay for itself.

Congrats!

That's a lot better than my entry, "Hemophiliacs' Nightmare!"

My sincerest apology, to any Knifenut, that may actually be a Hemophiliac.

ooops! Pardon me for the erroneous reponse.

I am looking forward to "To The Point". I have learned alot here. As an added bonus I have saved alot of money buying here and from learning about many more online companies.

So I look at this as an investment, I want Bladeforums to grow and prosper so that my future knife purchases will continue to be well informed and maybe a little cheaper.

My Thanks to all here for making this possible. Is the sign up going to be in the store? Sign me up.

We will have the sign up in the store, here and in the trial issue. Plus we will be sending feild reps out to your homes, businesses and favorite vacation spots. If you have animals in your yard, they will be held until you get your subscriptions. This also applies to fake animals like pink flamingos and raindeer. We will not however hold nativity scene figurines captive for obvious reasons. Santa however is fair game

Will we have access to back issues? Will they be archived so in the future subscribers can still read them? I like to keep my knife mags so I can refer back to them on occasion.

Not my Pink FLAMINGOS! How dastardly! I'll subscribe, I promise. Just leave Biff and Muffy alone. Please.

Just one question: any balisong content?

As I'm fond of saying, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing."

So, who will be writing and assembling this mag? I assume it is not Mike alone, and will you take submissions of articles?

We'll accept any and all content, but reserve the right to refuse or not publish, yadda yadda yadda.

Don't send huge files and pictures to us via email without our approval first. Text is ok, but not huge pictures without our approval.

Until this get's major subscribers, we're not going to be able to pay for articles, so please understand that going in. Also, if yuo kant rite wel, you may want to have someone proofread your articles before you submit them.... lord knows I'm going to have my hands full proofing Mike...
