The new blast media is not my favorite

I've purchased several new CRK's lately. Compared to my ones that are a few years old, the finish is very rough. I don't like this new sand blast media being used.

I owned a small 31 and a small inkosi for about a total of 15 minutes. Just long enough to agree with you.
I didn’t get rid of them because of the finish but I did notice it was different.
I’m interested in the new glass bead finish however.

I bought a 3/22 Large 31 and I did notice that it was on the rougher side

A small 31 I bought around Christmas had a very course finish, enough so that I took it apart and gently used some copper wool to smooth it a little. I agree that the new finish is not as desirable, for the cost I shouldn’t have to do any work to avoid the texture damaging my jean pockets.
For what it is worth- my most recent purchase (a small KA carbon fiber) had a finish more like the older ones I have.

all I own are newer production ones and yep like titanium sandpaper finish on them........

My small 31 was pretty rough on arrival, but after a couple of days it smoothed out. After a few weeks you wouldn't even know it was rough to begin with.

I like the glass blasted finish. Smoother but still tactile, And I think a little nicer looking.

I have noticed a difference as well..

But what really caught me was the stonewash finish on the blades... Went from having a glaze like surface reflection to being flat and almost Glass beaded like surface roughness.

Short of me putting a surface finish tester to them and actually giving quantified numbers this is solely based off what the hands and fingers feel.

(Some may find this to be a mortal sin.)
I really don't like the standard CRK sand-blasted finish, so I decided to slowly sand down the surface finish of my Sebenza until it reached a degree of roughness that was to my liking. Interestingly, the more I smoothed it the more I liked the look and the feel. I took the scale surfaces down to a very smooth final level. I was surprised to find that it isn't slippery in the hand, and there's no chance of snail-trailing at all. It's also easier on the pocket. I liked this final finish so much that I repeated the smooth finish on my other Sebenza and then again on my Impinda. I now find that I like the smooth small Sebenza and the smooth Impinda better without the pocket clip

Don't leave us hanging without any pics.

I noticed a change a couple of years ago when comparing two large 31s with the normal blast... Here is the pic I shared with the guy I bought one from, the one on the left (1/17/2021) is noticeably rougher than the one on the right (8/17/2020):

They have definitely gone to a more aggressive media or a higher pressure.

That’s interesting! Would you mind sharing the media (and grit) you used as well as the progression? I might like to try that in lieu of sending one or two pjs back for glass blasting.
Thanks
