I purchased a Buck Bantam BHW knife about a year ago and have really like it a lot. The thing I noticed about the knife when I got it was that it was made in China, but it has been one of the best knives that I have owned. So I decided to order another one. When I received the new one I noticed it was made in the USA and that the blade was not as wide and was not as thick as the import.
I will see if this new one is as good as the original one.

I have the large 286 bantam imported and have been very pleased with it as you have. I have the 285 medium made in USA and am equally pleased with the performance. The blade dimensions arent going to make a difference and I'm not sure when the china Bantams moved from 420hc to 420j2 but even if you have the 420hc(better) it hasnt been heat treated under the supervision of Paul Bos, so your USA model is going to be better.

I too have a 286, in Camo. Mine is an imported version, but I like it.

The only problem I had with mine was, the pocket clip didn't have enough tension, so it didn't stay put. It came out of my pocket while I was looking for a coyote I shot, and I didn't notice it when it happened. The damn camo worked too, because I wasn't able to find it.

The replacement knife stays in just fine though
