The new Joker is dead

What a damn shame. The guy was a talented actor and had the potential to be one of the greatest in our generation.

I'm curious to learn what the cause of death was. He was promising.....it's going to be weird watching on the screen as the Joker.

Police are saying he died of an overdose. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow. Looks like another River Phoenix. And yes, it will be kinda creepy seeing him in his role as the Joker.

To quote a song by Todd Snider about the late Eddie Shaver "quit too late and you'll die too soon." Very true.

He leaves behind a young daughter. Damn shame.

the radio news said a bottle of sleeping pills were recovered near his bed, where he was found.

if they were the cause, it would appear to have been a suicide. i would think quite a few sleeping pills, even prescription, would need to be ingested to result in death (unless alcohol or another intoxicant were ingested at the same time).

I think the speculation by the press about cause of death are extremely premature. The sleeping pills were the over the counter type...not easy to off yourself with those...especially for a healthy 28 year old. I'll bet there was another underlying condition.

River Phoenix died of an overdose of heroin and cocaine.....light years of difference between over the counter sleeping pills and speedballing heroin and cocaine.

There may be much more to the story (there usually is) but he he didn't strike me as the self-destructive type.

Yes, very sad. The AP story I read said that he had been have trouble sleeping - couldn't sleep more than 2 hours a night. Got a prescription for Ambien. The prescription bottle was on the table by the bed.

It is my understanding, and Zen can correct me if I am wrong, that a combo of certain sleeping pills and or tranqs, combined with alcohol, is the cause of many accidental overdose deaths. Accidental being the key word here.

Some bound tranqs are almost impossible to overdose to death with (but can require hospitalization and possible long term problems), but when you add the alcohol, it unbinds the tranq and releases it into the system to eventually cause respiratory arrest.

I probably have it all confused, but that is my understanding.

I didn't hear about the prescription sleeping pills.....only over the counter. This stuff always changes 20 times before the truth is known.

I did not intend to compare their manner of death, only the result; the loss of another talented, promising, actor entirely too young.

That said, you can choose your posion: drugs, booze, fast livin', whatever. It will all catch up with you eventually. Quit too late and you'll die too soon.

Not preaching either, I'm no angel and am lucky to be here today... and I know it.

On TMZ this is reported:

NYPD sources tell TMZ that nearly full pill bottles containing the anti-anxiety medications Alprazolam (Xanax), Diazepam (Valium) and Lorazepam (Ativan) were found in the apartment. The sleeping medication Zoplicone (Lunesta) and the sedative Temazepam (Restoril) -- which is used by people with "debilitating insomnia" -- were also found.

That's some serious stuff. I wonder how many doctors he was seeing?

Crickee! All but the Lunesta are in the same drug family of benzodiazepines; meaning they work the same way and would have a cumulative effect. Some have very long half lives so he could easily not realize and take them all as directed by the labels and end up overdosing.

Which is worse; killing yourself out of despair or out of ignorance. :(

==========

Yeah Judy; mix any of them with alcohol and it goes down hill fast. Fall asleep; go into resperatory depression: basically lose the ability to breath and quietly suffocate.

Brandon Lee's last movie came out after he died, and he died on the set of filming the movie. You just sit there thinking; that guy died making this movie.

The human diaper stains from the Westboro Baptist Church are planning to protest at Heath Ledger's funeral.

...A press release posted to the church's Web site, godhatesfags.com, reads: "Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there -- besides which, nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevant or consequential."

I can not believe that they call themselves "christians." Where are the lions when you need them?

I guess they have trouble distinguishing fiction from reality?
