Thanks to Spectre I'm imagining "The Age of Aquarius" playing.

I'd guess the sun is a traditional symbol in Nepal, representing the counntry, or at least (part) of its leadership? Sort of like the maple leaf in the Canadian flag. It's included on the Nepalese flag. Exact meaning? Dunno. Here's a link to a site talking about their flag. Interesting stuff. http://flagspot.net/flags/np.html

Marks like these on an HI khuk serve as signatures by the smith (kami) who made it.
 
Could it be the "Quality Control" mark mentioned a while back when we were having forging problems?
