Who's handled/used one of the new ones with the synthetic handle? Opinions?

And where are they made?

I have to admit. As much as I love SOG knives, I don't think their Fusion line is for me. Ive gone over all of my opinions in another thread about the Fusion line so I won't rehash all of it. I'll simply sum it all up. The Fusion line is SOG's answer to a need for more "affordable" tools. Don't get me wrong. Their "affordable line" is better than a lot of companies' top of the line. The Fusion line just isn't my bag. I'm not saying I'm the kind of person who has to spend a bunch of money on something to feel good about it, buit I am willing to spend more for a better product. Now all that being said, when it comes to hawks, I think that some of the more traditional styles and materials are superior to some of the innovation in the world today. For example, I would choose the Cold Steel Trail Hawk over any of the newer designs and makes. It is less expensive than all the "new-fangled" stuff and in my opinion better suited for real life.

Disclaimer: If any of the guys at SOG were thinking about offering me a job with an employee discount, I was just kidding. I take it all back. Fusion is number 1! lol

There have been issues of the handle breaking off with hard use. As was said, the Fusion line is SOG low cost (and unfortunately, generally lower quality) line of tools. Spencer was not real happy with me when I was not excited about the tomahawk.

I know the wood handled one had issues, but is the synthetic handle really breaking as well?

That is the reason they replaced it with the synthetic now. I've held one, but not used it; but I think it would be quite difficult to break the handle now. I do own the SOG Jungle Fusion and love the lines and feel of the blade. For the cost it really can't be beat, but when you pay that little don't expect it to be the best quality stuff. Yeah the Jungle Fusion is fun, but it doesn't seem keep an edge very long at all.

The holes in the head make me walk away...

The holes, I'm pretty sure, weren't added as a "cool factor" but probably more to reduce weight. The thing is pretty hefty. I think they are more functional than fashion intented...

Seems there is at least one instance of this here on the forum. Looking at how that synthetic handled one broke it makes me wonder if it's something inherent in the design of the way the head is attached to the haft and with that retaining collar being positioned where it is....
