The new Spyderco "Byrd"?

You need to check out that Dialex Adventura in person. It is very, very thin and light. It is by far the lightest SS Spyderco I have ever handled. It is also very pocketable. If it weren't for the cheaper drop point D'Allara, I would have got one yesterday.

Artfully Martial,

You can ask Dialex where he got the inspiration from, as he's the one that came up with the design.

Dialex posted pictures of the precursor to the Adventura several years ago, well before the Byrd line existed. Looks like a great design too. I want one!

Well, it could be entirely coincidental of course, (though I'm rather pleased, as I actually like the Byrd's asthetics more than most Spydercos), and it sounds as if perhaps the Byrd line might have been inspired by some previous design from this guy, but I do think I see a very real resemblance. Which is a compliment.

Is it just me or would you guys feel that this knife, visually, would be out of place in the Byrd lineup?

You know that Dialex is a member here, and it is on the Spydie forums?

The Dialex design is not a Byrd right?

Does anyone know what's up with Daywalker's design?

Apparently all in my head

Hey, don't feel bad about asking the question!

Knives are designed to perform a relatively narrow range of functions. Those that are designed to perform them efficiently tend to have a lot of characteristics in common. Given the huge number of designs out there, and the degree to which designers borrow ideas, both legitimately and otherwise, it is hardly surprising that a lot of knives look quite similar.

Unless you know a lot of history about the particular designs, and why should you, it is quite reasonable to ask whether one design is related to another.

Thanks, it's good to know...I still "see" a lot in common among the designs, like I might see in one Lightfoot knife to another, but after asking a few folks that said they saw nothing in common outside the SS handle, I must be just imagining things. When I first saw it, I actually remarked something to the effect of "Look at the new Byrd!"

 I like the looks of that knife.
I own a Byrd and am very pleased with it , especially for the nice price.
I only wish the handles had more grip to em....

rebeltf,

Get some stairway or traction tape from Lowe's or Home Depot(can't remember which one). I cleaned the surface of my Carcara's scales with a clean cloth wet down with Isopropyl Alcohol, cut my grip tape to size and desired shape and applied it to the scale. Easy as can be and instant, greatly enhanced grip. The adhesive on these traction tapes is incredible and made to stay in place on a more or less permanent basis.
I've used this tape on all the handles of my stainless steel folders and have been pleased with the results. The trick is getting all of the oils and dirt off of the steel surface your going to apply the tape to. The more oil free the surface, the better the adhesive will, well, adhere to that surface.
