Anyone have any more specs/info on the "Carpenter"?

I think something like this appeals to those of us who have been waiting for an ESEE Izula folder; a thing that is almost as mythical as a freakin' unicorn... but I digress. Throw a custom micarta scale on it and I believe we have a contender! I really dig that blade-shape!:cool::thumbup:

Love the new 2011 Spydies, Sal! Thank you and keep up the good work! :)

There was a concept or prototype model at the Amsterdam meet. If I recall things correct 2 versions will be made, on for the Carpenter employees in top notch materials (all steel I think) donated by carpenter (it was a heavy weight knife), and a commercial version with slightly different materials.

Oh, yes. I do like the look of the Techno. We'll hope that it actually sees the day of light.

Yes, the Techno is also a cool-looking little knife... probably even deserves its own thread... ;)

back to topic
I liked the ideea a lot (Carpenter workers taking pride in carrying and using a product made out of their materials), not so happy with the steel framelock :grumpy:
the design is an in-house one (I would venture to say Eric's) and that tall thin blade DID look like a great slicer
also, IIRC Sal stated that the material the Carpenter logo is carved in is something called "bio-blue XHP", pretty expensive stuff, which most likely will be used only on the batch made for Carpenter, but not on the version intended for general public (if any)

Hi Timberweasel,

Thanx for the kind comments, but I must confess that Eric designed the Carpenter model. The first run will be made for Carpenter crew and they will be completely made from steel made in the Carpenter foundry. Blade, scales, springs, etc. We've not yet decided which blade steel to use.

They wanted a hi-performer so more than likely we'll use one of their "hifalutin" steels.

The following runs are open for suggestion.

In keeping with the hifalutin concept, I would be more than happy with CTS-20CP or CTS-204P. And that Techno looks good, too.

Sal,

I would carry a "Carpenter"......The blade shape is perfect IMO, and looks like it can put in some serious work! Props to you, Eric and the rest of the Spyderco design crew. 2011 is going to be an EPIC year for new Spydies. At the rate you guys are going.....I'm going to have to win the Lottery to keep up with the Spyderco knives I want!!

my suggestion for blade steel is either micro-melt A11 or CTS-20CP.

carpenter makes titanium and that would be a great choice for the handle. maybe TI6Al-4V ELI.

Textured titanium handles (even non textured is cool) and CTS 20CP would make the Carpenter folder an instant favorite.
