I'm wondering what you all think about how these 2 knives will compair . Their specs are very close other than the 711 is SR-101 and the SOD is SR-77 . I realize the 711is not out yet , just looking for first thoughts .

"Pssst............www.scrapyardknives.com"

and ?........ yeah that's their site all right . Doesn't have much to do with the question though . I know the 711 is "available" I have one on order . But they are not "out" yet as none of them have been shipped so far . So , my point was that no one has any first hand experience with it yet BUT how do people expect it to compair to the Son of Dogfather .

Seems like his point is this is the Busse forum, not the SYKCO forum and you did not ask about any comparisons to any Busse blades, say the Basic 6 or Basic 7 for example, which makes it more kosher for this forum. ;)

Well Tim, while most of us at the Yard are fully aware of the Dog, Rat, and Hog "thing", we respect all three labels and appreciate the thoughts (well, MOST of them!) from all of our Bussekin brethren. At the Yard we discuss all three labels with equal fervor, and appreciate the input from all Bussekin loving folks!

I apologize if I did not explain myself clearly enough the first time. :o Tom, I agree, and am not at all trying to be a jerk here. You will notice I said "Seems like his point..." not mine and I was also trying to help give the OP an answer to his "and ? ...." question. Discussing all three labels with equal fervor is more than cool by me, but where was that actually occurring here? I was not saying anything bad about any of the brands, just attempting to help the thread be more productive by suggesting he make it a conversation about hogs & dogs in the hog forum since I realize there is not a dedicated SY forum here. All I know from past reading here is that if the question had been about strictly rats it would have been bumped to that forum.

So now, let's talk about all three labels. I will start by saying that I am VERY curious how the 711 compares to either the SOD, the Camp Tramp, the Basic 6 or the upcoming Basic 8 as my only experience with Res-C users so far is with the Basic 11, the Camp Tramp, and S5LE.
I have held an SOD which was very nice feeling, but didn't get to use it. I suspect the 711 to be closest to the Camp Tramp, and as such it should be a really sweet blade. I never held a Basic 6 and obviously the Basic 8 is not out yet, but some who attended blade got to hold one and may be able to comment.

I appologize for my mistake . I'm new to Busse and Busse kin knives and have only recently got my first one . So I did not know what Swamp Rat knife would be compairable and from the little I know Busse doesn't make a 7 inch camp type knife . I have a Busse basic 6 and I have a SYKCO 711 on order . I know some people only own Swamp Rat or Scrap Yard because of their great value to price , but many who own Busse also own one or more of the other two . So I thought this might be a good place to get some input . Clearly I was wrong and whoever is in charge here can feel free to remove this thread if they wish .

P.S. By the way , that's quite an impressive knife collection Tim  Something for us new guys to aspire too ;)

From memory only because they were not side by side I would say that the I recall the 711 as being lighter and livelier due to the full height grind.

I do not believe any of the 711's have shipped yet ?
If they have where is mine ?

No worries Bro. We are all one big disfunctional family when it comes to Busse kin knives. I would guess that once the Scrapyard guys start shipping the 711 the forums on scrapyard knives will have all the answers you are looking for. In the mean time grab a drink and enjoy the party.

The 711 is in the market and in use for 8-9 months already.
In the thread "http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/933797-SYCKO-711-vs-SRKW-Camp-Tramp-user-thoughts-review" AZTimT has its own "results" and "conclusions" comparing the 711 with CampTramp, since March 2012.
But the initial question of Mike-The-Knife "I'm wondering what you all think about how these 2 knives will compair" (as far as the 711 and SOD comparison is concerned) I think is still UN-answered.
Has anybody to say something?
I have a 711 and I am wondering if it is worth to think about a Son of Dogfather. Which are the differences and similarities (if any) of the two blades ?

That's the best I can do since I still don't have a Son of Dogfather to use for comparison.
If someone wants to loan me a user SOD to compare I would gladly post up the results and send the loaner back, otherwise, someone else will have to chime in.

Ive owned both. I extensively used the SOD but didn't get to use the 711. I like the feel and weight of the 711 better. I believe it would be better at most knife tasks due to the thinner stock and the fact that its made out of SR101. The SOD should out chop it because of the weight advantage. Personally I think the 711 is just about a perfect all around knife.

I completely agree! An awesome piece of SR-101

I have to thank you all for your response up to now.
Of course, other - additional comments - reviews - opinions, are welcome.

Yes , thank you everyone for your input . I had started this thread in early January before the 711's where shipped . I found mine to be a good size for general use and felt good in the hand . I did however find that the blade edge was very thick , so it wasn't handy for much other than light chopping . So it got passed along to a fellow knife nut .
