I've been eying the Horseman for about a year and I never pulled the trigger. I was wondering what other good starter Emerson's I should consider? I really like medium sized knives around 3.5 inches and I like finger choils.

The horseman has been my edc for the past 6 weeks and it really is a great option for every day carry.

In addition, I would suggest the mini cqc 15. The handle really locks your hand into place when it comes to a variety of different grips.

Lastly, the 7 is a good carry option as well. There's no prominent finger choil but the handle is deceptively ergonomic.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I do like the cqc 15 as well although sharpening the blade would be a pain.

Don't let that scare you off. My sharpening skills are crap but I'm able to get the edge on my mini 15 hair whittling sharp. I use the rods off my sharpmaker but go freehand instead of using the base. The chisel edge makes it easier.

I just bought a Horseman and a CQC8, both satin with serrations. The Horseman is like the CQC8's little brother.

They really are nice knives, and I was worried about fit and finish but they must have stepped up because no worries, both were centered, no tool marks and truly were flawless. Couldn't be happier.

Except for one thing.

Now I want to buy a Journeyman too!

For ergos, I 'd place the CQC-10 on top. Then the SOFK, then the 7. I love the 10, it's my favorite Emerson.

That's good to know.
