I don't want this to turn into something ugly, but I would like to mention that my recent political opinions have boiled down into one question:
How do you feel about gun control?
The people who are pro-gun also tend to feel the same general way about most things political as I do.
So, I will be voting for Ron Paul. He had a booth at the last gun show I attended. No other candidates of any party were represented.

You're in Texas. How do you feel about Illegal Immigration?

I find boiling things down to 1 issue usually doesn't work. But good luck with RP. At least you'll get to avoid the lines on election day.

You MIGHT get to vote for him once in March if he makes it that long. I think it's doubtful he'll still be a candidate after Super Tuesday.

I'm a libertarian, so i'll probably be voting for Paul...and then backing someone else in the general election. I'm not a "gun guy" insomuch that I have a lot of firearms, but I believe that they are the fundamental to our freedom as a society.

Quite honestly, I'm a little politically jaded these days. Both "sides" rub me the wrong way. Paul is largely a throwaway vote, but until I HAVE to decide on someone else, I'm in his camp.

I'm having big problems as well. I find myself scratching my head at this point and couldn't make a decision now if I had to.

 It would be nice to vote FOR someone with a significant chance of winning rather than just against their opponent, for a change. I don't see this happening any time soon unfortunately.

I vote for the person whom I would like to win, not forthe person I think will win. I believe that is how it is supposed to work.
As to the illegal immigration issue in Texas, let me say this: I have lived in other countries and worked in other countries and they required proof of a college degree just to get a crappy little job, on top of the legal immigration paperwork. The idea of allowing millions of undocumented foreign workers would be totally out of the question.

I am not in favor of gun control. That said, I don't know if I trust any of the hopefuls to respect our 2A rights. So I don't know who I will be voting for.

I am only in favor of one gun control regulation. I do not believe that violent criminals should be allowed to own firearms. A quick background check (phone call) would suffice although I do not want any record of the transaction made.

You vote for who you want for your own reasons.

As for the immigration issue, it's not an idea but a reality. The question is what to do about it. What do you do with millions of illegals already here? I'm stuck scratching my head again wondering. It's such a huge nasty problem.

I worked on Ron Paul's campaign in 1988 when he ran against Democrat George H. W. Bush. (Oh, sorry, Republican.)

He was ahead of his time then and is the only rock-solid Constitutionalist on either side. He's the only one talking about the huge debt we face, the only one talking about the true role of Gov't, the only one talking about State's rights, and the only one talking about entangling alliances and quoting the founders.

I really hate it that the other candidates and people from FOX news try to marginalize him (Giulani rolling his eyes and smirking whenever Paul comes up with one of his "kooky" ideas from the Constitution), and yet rush to parrot him in the next debate.

Unfortunately, the people want the same old bread and circuses. Paul was our last chance to climb back up out of the hole, and he doesn't stand a chance of being elected.

I have no confidence in the future of our country right now.

Norm

Man, Norm, you summed it up perfectly for me:)

IMHO, the country needs a change in direction. My personaly belief is that it should be in the manner where personal liberties and freedoms are put at the foreground. Some believe that a Kennedyesque personality is what we need. That is their right.

I have the sneaking suspicion that we are in for more of the same for the next 4 years, where the only difference between the parties is what color they paint the issues. Is it healty to be totally and completely politically cynical by the age of 27?

At least we'll still have the Cantina, right;)?

I personally would like one that speaks like Obama, with the populist rhetoric of John Edwards and Huckabee, and who prized individual rights and privacy like Ron Paul with the wide ranging government experience of Bill Richardson.
