Yes you hear us old timers wishing for the old days ,the simpler days. But sometimes it's not just nostalgia there's some rational to it.
Case in point -the newest version of my camera is a Sony HX-1 .One of the features is the Smile Detection System !! This holds the shutter until the camera detects that the subject is smiling !!
I ain't smiling - and it's going to break the camera !!

Someone took a photo of me the other day with a camera in the "smile" mode. I don't like to smile with my teeth showing, 'cause it looks like I'm snarling! :D

I have the dumbest smile. In photos, I almost never smile. When I try, it looks like I'm snarling, too.

Geesh, what a grumpy bunch of old sots.

I just start thinking of one of my more pleasurable forays with a lover and I'm smiling from ear to ear. Of course I have to be careful my lip corners are the only things that get a rise. (Is this the time to use that funny moving smiley?)

Actually, I hear ya Mete. Even without the smile recognition, the face recognition gets me frustrated. I often don't want the central point of focus to be a face, or the face the camera selects.

My camera must not be new enough. No smile detector. But what frustrates me is that to take decent indoor photos I find myself having to put it on the "night" setting.

I have a camera with that feature. I have it turned off. The wierd thing is that thing still has the little green smile detectors on the whole time. I use it for work and there ain't many smile-moments to capture anyway.

That said, I have a new iphone and it is great. They should call it the islacker.:D
