It's the oldest knife I've got...
The oldest knife I've ever seen.
Everytime I give it a thought,
I wonder everywhere it's been.
Hello fellow porch sitters, I have enjoyed your posts so much I figured I'd finally get down to writing one up that I had planned for a while. I started getting really into slipjoints in the Spring of last year, and found one of my favorite things to do was pull over any time I saw a 'garage sale' sign. 9 times out of 10 I would get a strange look when I asked "do you have any pocket knives?". But there's always that occasional old guy with the box full of of cool stuff. This was neither of those visits. These people seemed more like "professional garage sellers". I had never seen so much JUNK. And I mean that in the "one mans trash is another man's trasure sense" but it sure was a lot of stuff! Anyway, they did have a small bin full of knives, one which really stood out to me. Wooden handles and a rusted spring, bulging pins and an antique white patina. Clearly hand made and very old, the only making was an "L" stamped into the tang. The walk and talk was very unique and the spring was scary snappy on the close from the half stop. I grabbed it and 2 other beat up stockmen and went to chat with the people running the place. Turns out they spend the year traveling around the country buying junk and then garage sell it all Summer. Not sure if they turn any kind of profit or are just crazy, but I scored these 3 beauties for $9.00.
So what is the oldest knife you've got? What's the oldest knife you've even seen? Best garage sale score? Most importantly, anyone have info on these 3 knives, especially "Mystery L"? Thanks for reading
