Alright. I have been saving up for 2 knives recently. I am a Balisong fan as well as Folders and pretty much every knife.

I have just about enough money to get the BM 42, but I also really really really really want the ZT 0350. Unbelievably want that knife. I love but knives, but I am trying to figure out what I want more, so I ask, what do you think? and what do you do in situations like this???

I buy one and then save up for the other one, and buy that one. Duh. I'd pick the ZT 0350 just because it's more sheeple friendly of the two. Also, if you go across state lines, some states may not be too happy if you carry a bali.

Bali's are cool and all, just not my cup of tea. Mike Janich joined the Spyderco team recently. Here's to hoping he sways the folks over there to start producing his Jani-song (his interpretation of a bali...one that you can't cut your finger with while you flip it open).

BTW, I replied to your thread about the satin finish.

Yea. The only problem is that I can only get one right now, since there's about a billion people competing with me for jobs. People that are definatley older than me.

0350. If you've never had an assisted knife, let this be the one you try. I wasn't gung ho about it before I got it, but I do love it now.

Do you mind me asking what tasks you put it through???? It looks like it could handle alot...

I'm a city kid (I start grad school next semester after my internship that I'm doing now in a biomechanics lab). Having said that I cut up boxes/cardboard and plastic ties. I use it to open letters sometimes too.

I suppose for my tasks it's overkill, but I love the thing.

We seem very similar. I'm a wannabe do it all guy. I go out in the woods in my back yard with stuff pretending its a big forest lol. Thats florida for you

Don't take a balisong to work... unless you work at a biker bar.

What Hark suggested. I would get the ZT0350 first because you really, really, really, really seem to like it! :-) Neither knife is in danger of discontinuation anytime soon, so with faithful saving you should be able to get the BM42 in no time! Good luck on whichever one you get. Btw, I don't have the ZT in question, though I do have 7 other ZT's, and I think they are some of the hardest duty knives available. The 0350 has a blade that is .125" in thickness, and hardened stainless steel liners that are ~.080" thick. I don't think you can go wrong with it!

Something else to consider is that you already know Phil makes custom scales. Beyond that, there's another guy here, Gavin, that makes custom clips. They should be nearing completion soon. You can check them out here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=650433 EDIT: Those wooden scales you see there were made by Phil as well.

Gavin has made runs for Kershaw knives so far. He's also making some for the ZT line.

Probably should take out the really really thing haha, people seem to be using it in my other thread too. I just think Its a knife everyone can appreciate, because you have people that love the sebenzas and the centofantes and the 10700s, and then you have the heavy duty knife style people. One of the reasons I like strider as well, They can make something that looks so good yet gets the job done perfectly.

Its the perfect knife for the people who buy for functionality but also like to feel proud of a slick design.

You answered your question. Get the 0350 Knife Works edition in satin finish. :D

The Knife Works satin finished is a limited run. So if ya want one...

That's true, but I've noticed that they come out in batches and tend to stay in stock for several months. The KW0200 is still sold. I've seen it in stock for weeks and then out of stock for a few weeks, and back in stock like it is now.

So there is nothing different with that from the black coating? I would definitely get the satin I just want to know that the black coated one is not some newer model or something. Sounds dumb but hey I'm relatively new to this so I don't really know how knife businesses work hah

Edit: I think I just answered another one of my own questions, i looked at the design at knife works and bead blasted just means they took of the coating right and put on another?

That may be me. Of course it is all in good fun that I used it. Nothing insulting meant!:D But you really do need the ZT0350.

There is no coating on the blade as far as I know. It just means that they finished the metal with an abrasive compound to where it gets a nice look.
