Hey, All,
I finally received the prize Thrower from Bobby, which I won in his gracious contest before Christmas to outline Olympic Knife Throwing Guidelines!! And, in honour of the Olympics...here are some pics, and a few words about this fine knife.
First off, this is a BIG knife. Now, don't get me wrong. Big is good. VERY good, in this case. In this pic, you can see Bobby's piece, dwarfing a 5.5" Hibben III Thrower:
Man, that's BIG! Surprisingly, though, it rotates like a much smaller knife. My (cramped) indoor range is only about 12-15', and I can manage, after about a day-and-a-half's warmup (hey, the knife is Olympic material, not the thrower...yet!
) to stick a half-turn without issue. All that size equates to a hefty bit of mass, though, and this thing has ABSOLUTELY no qualms about penetration!! As you can see, my target is a chunk of solid-core door:
And, while mercilessly tattered, it still requires a sharp point, a hefty blade, or a cannon-throw to stick it. The Branton Thrower has the first two in abundance (although I should note that the point is not so fine as to chip or snap, during my first *WINCE* few misses on the
concrete floor
...)
Following what I would class a 'casual toss' (i.e., just trying to stick it, not penetrate the neighbour next doors' wall), you can see that the blade is sunk about .75" into the door!!! WOW!!! Several times over the weekend, I managed to sink it over 1.25"!! Then, of course, I had to work...and work...and work...to get it out! DOH!!!
So, would I recommend this knife to my buddies? DONE IT! Will I enjoy this knife for years to come? PLAN TO (it's built like a Sherman Tank)! Would *I* like to be on the catching end? NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!!
In conclusion, I would like to again express my deepest thanks to Mr. Bobby Branton, as well as to this, the BladeForums community, for being not only tremendously generous, but one of the most talented, knowledgeable, and forthright bunch of standup yahoos on the planet!!
Goodnight, all, and Good Luck to Ira!!
