First, let me just say that Les Robertson and Kit Carson got it ALL together on this one! This is a fantastic knife, especially if you are partial to large folders.

I got home this afternoon from school and found a delivery ticket from Fed Ex on the door. A package was here and not delivered because no one was at home. So doing the smart thing I head out to catch the Fed Ex guy. The package originated in Augusta, Ga. and I really thought it was the JW Smith framelock that I had traded for from Bob Neal come a day early (set to arrive tomorrow). After about 30 mins. and getting ready to just give up and wait until tomorrow I turn the corner and........YEP, you guessed it...the Fed Ex man! So I follow him to his next stop and get the package. On the way home I open it and finally pull the knife case out, still thinking that it is the Smith. By now though I have seen it came from Les Robertson and it still hasn't dawned on me what it is. I have the case in hand and think it is fairly heavy for a 3.5" framelock and am quite pleased as I like a hefty feeling knife. Still oblivious to what is in the case I unzip it and lay my eyes on the largest Kit Carson folder I've ever seen! Then it finally DAWNS on me!

I wish I could post a picture but can't. If anyone out there has one of these, I know there are 5 more because mine is #6, PLEASE POST A PICTURE!! The front bolster with its twin guards reminds me alot of Al Mar's original SERE folders. The handle though is slimmer with a pinky hook on the rear that nicely locks your hand onto the handle. A laynard hole is also present. The blade is what grab your attention it is 4.25" in length, .165" thick ( between 5/32" and 3/16") and 1.25" wide. A big blade. It is a spear point with false edge running about 3/4's of the top edge. D2 steel is sharp as a razor. The liners are around .080" thick and when in place on the blade tang lock it up tight, tight, TIGHT! Big thumbstud give you a good grip on opening the blade. As It comes it just glides open so effortlessly it is almost like an automatic. I guess that big thick blade is heavy enough that once you get it moving it don't stop until it locks up.

Again this is a heck of a knife and was a real surprise to come home too. As I said at the outset, Les and Kit really have it ALL together on this one. The design and the craftsmanship are top notch! Not that it hasn't been all together on the others though!

Thanks Les. Thanks Kit.

Just last night I was checking out Les' Vanguard series! You got one hell of a knife there, my friend. The sere comparison was right on as far as the design of the bolster.

Around here, teachers are always bugging for a raise! I guess that's not the case in your neck of the woods! ;)

No, we teachers in N.C. need a raise too! You'll have to check out the for sale forum in a bit and see what I'm going to have to sell in order to keep what I got:( :) You are right on the mark Boink. This is a KNIFE. One feature I really like on it is the slim handle. It makes it easy to grip and also makes it easy to carry.

I'm thinking about just going with Carson, Obenauf, and JW Smith knives for a while. They all have the same outstanding fit and finish and the hefty feel I like in my folders.

p.s. I will keep a Sebenza or two also!:D  :)

Hi Art,

Glad to read you liked the knife.

A couple of things.

First, the steel is S30V. Originally, Kit and I talked about D-2, in fact the prototypes have D-2.

Second, very observant on your part about the comparison to the AL Mar SERE Folder.

In fact that was the knife used as the base idea for this knife. I carried one for several years back in the old days before custom "tactical" folders.

Looking at the knife, it is easy to see why Master Knife Maker Kit Carson was selected to build this knife.

For the past two days this has become my edc. It rides very well in my right front pocket and even though it is a big knife it doesn't print nor feel that big in the pocket. The twin guards really help in drawing the knife out as they give you a good place to grasp it at. What really, really flips my burger about it is when you open it. I have tightened the pivot from what it originally came set at, and it still just glides open and locks up with a deep "crack"! I still guess that the heavy blade really keeps it moving once you push it. Of course I DO NOT slam this knife open, just as I do not slam any of mine open. There is push you can apply that lets the blade just fall into the open position. I really hate it when I see people just sling a blade open like they were throwing a frisbee. I don't care how well a knife is made that kinda opening is bound to be bad for it in the long run!

Anyway, I still believe that Les and Kit hit on a winning formula with this knife!:D
