Well, there you have it folks...the little Alias that wanted to be a Sebenza.

Only had up to 1500grit to polish with, so i'm going to have to get some higher grit stuff, hoping to get super mirror finish someday.

17* V-Edge provided by Lanksy Diamond hones...took forever...s30v is hard

Nice work! In some ways I like the Alias better than the Sebenza, and your tweaks look great.

WOW!
You managed to mirror polish S30V?!?!

Now you know why almost no manufacturers offer this feature anymore.

Great work and very impressive.

Sweeeet! What grit did you start with? More info on the polishing job plz :)

Well, started with a bench grinder wheel, and reshaped the blade to a more sebenza-esk profile.

As for the polishing, I started with a 220 - 320 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1000 - 1200 - 1500

I took the blade apart and layed it on one of those note pads you get from company's and went to work, did most of it while I watched a 4 hour NCIS marathon heh.

Nice job swmp4L

Appreciate your fearless disregard for the very real possiblity of trashing a nice folder too!

Probably the reason your knife took so long to sharpen on the "diamond stones" is that they are losing their efficiency owing to the fact that they shed their diamonds. I have had a similar problem. Moving my sharpening work to Carborundum, Corundum, and Washita stones solved the "tough steel" problem.

Carborundum, Corundum

I looked these stones up yesterday on google and came up with some offerings. They say nothing about them really, just the prices which are inexpensive.

I bought a course/fine sharpening stone at ACE Hardware, but it didn't say (maybe it did - I lost the sleeve it came in) what it was made out of.

What distinguishes them from a regular hardware store sharpening stone? Anything? Or, are they the same thing?

I know my $10 hardware store stone will rip into S30V steel a heckuva lot better than the diamond rods on my SharpMaker.

I was disappointed with the diamond stones for the Sharpmaker. I found them to be expensive and not very effective.

That's what I think. For about $50 + or - I could have bought an EdgePro Apex system.

Very Impressive... Nice Work on Polishing that blade I know that must haven taken quite some time, it looks 110% better!

Which one do you like better? You have to some affinity to your Alias after all of that hard work.

Me too! I'm hours into reprofiling a BM710 D2 just to 30 degrees inclusive, what a chore!!! :(
