So around 2010 or thereabouts, I picked up a Manix for $80 here on the forum, incidently the same day I picked up a Strider SMF gen 2.
The manix quickly blew my mind and became my go-to work knife. Big, beefy, razor sharp, and great ergonomics. The strider went into the safe and the Manix became my hard use folder.
Fast forward to 2015, doing some work on the jeep and I sat it on the spare tire and stupidly drove off. Needless to say, I spent a week walking up and down the road for miles looking for that beast. Alas, it was gone.
By this time, I had really stopped collecting outside the odd Sebenza here and there, but the Manix was always in my mind as the knife I regretted losing/breaking/selling the most.
I rarely visited here for several years, but did check in around 2020, the covid shutdown, thinking maybe I would pick up another Manix. I was shocked to find they had been discontinued and were extremely hard to find...and the ones for sale were sometimes up to $350!! Sure, there was the Manix II, but that was not what I was looking for.
Anyway, a few days ago, a random alert from the bay put me on to a mint Manix 1, and I was lucky enough to grab her for a price I could live with! All is right with the world!
The only difference, the one I lost didn't have the little spider on the blade...
