What knife do you truly miss not having anymore? It could be one you sold, gave away, or one you lost.

For me, it's a Chamblin whittler in stag that rlewisk picked-up: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=536247&highlight=chamblin

Not sure what I was thinking when I sold her. I wasn't in the right state of thought! :p I had that knife in my mind for a few years then decided to go to Joel. A year after that I got the knife, held on to it for a month, then sold it. :(

sierra,
I have had many go through my hands. What a great experience.
I do not have the fortune to be able to keep them all,at least at once, anyhow.

But I copied what a good friend wrote, and Boss Hoss says it really perfect...

I have never gotten back a "regret" knife that meant the same as it did when I first had it.

I no longer regret...plenty of great "new to me" choices always out there.

And I'm sure there are plenty of "one off 's ",that were passed along by many guys, but what about the next one, around the corner

At the end of the day we all do not need any of these beauties to carry on,so just enjoy the ride,I say.My list is too long for this thread anyhow :D

This is a great thread you started,

I have heard Vince's philosophy about the topic before. I always to try to remember what he says whenever I start to feel nostalgic about one that got away. It usually makes me feel better.
Of course there was a Ruple copperhead in amber stag that I let slip away. Vince's words don't help at all when I think about that one. Holy Moly! What was I thinking? :D

Rob,I have a few I feel the same way about,but ride the wave,it's a good one :D

Life's too short to be walking around kicking the dirt over a pocketknife, lol, order another, someone has to keep these guys going

When it comes to the traditionals that I have had, I consider myself in the best of all positions, because the favorites I've let go have gone to my friends here on the forums. No regrets there at all, in fact it feels like a win/win each time. :)

I have to admit though that I don't know what I was thinking when I traded Rob my Dork Ops Invisible Covert Laser-Guided Zen Intuitive Krypton Deanimator Flipper for one used bag of teriyaki armadillo jerky...it was easily worth two bags. :D

Rob & all,In the case of "what was I thinking".....In one instance, for me,it was a term of a deal I neglected, while in the "what was I thinking" mode & that was,"If you ever re-sell,please come to me first" Now you're really touching on something! Darn, dam dope :o:confused::mad:

Don't feel bad about trading that one off, Ford. I came to realize the "Invisible Covert" feature ain't so great. I know that sucker is somewhere here in the shack but I'll be darned if I can see it anywhere.

I have 2 that I mourn the passing of...

One was an excellent example of a greenbone Case Tested 6231. Fantastic condition, snapped and walked like a champ, it was screaming to be used. Hard financial times hit, and it became $150 I desperately needed. :(

The other was one that wasn't even mine. An American Eagle Craftsman lockback, one of the only ones I've ever seen. My dad carried that one since the mid-80s, lost it last year. I've been searching ever since.

Rob I hope that sierra11 will be tolerant of my silliness on his excellent thread, :o

but I have to confess that when we swapped, I secretly kept the Dork Ops Special Infra-red Deanimator locating glasses that came with my Deanimator because I had grown so used to wearing them everyday. I'll "man-up" now and send those on down to Tejas so you can enjoy that fine flipper. I know I can borrow a pair to wear occasionally from my Dork Op colleagues at one of the secret meetings. (see below).

I'm wacked. I have sold almost 800 Case Classics and kept a few, just never have sold a custom traditional knife. I have given a few away as gifts and quite a few of my best ones have gone to my dad over the years.

I really enjoy the people of this hobby as much as I do the knives. The ones that have gotten away are in good places and most are carried.

It is enjoyable seeing the knives that forum members have picked up here. I might even enjoy that more than I have a right. I enjoy it even more when someone I have met in person or have gotten to know well snags a knife that makes me drool. (Blue's Ruple sowbelly, Jeff's snag of Ken's knife on the forum a month or so ago, Rob getting that great peanut made by Joel from Campbell, Jim's Bose peanut that was orginaly owned by Calvin Cooledge who lives a few blocks from me (or any Bose for that matter) Shaldag's tux pattern that Ron Newton made for him. I honestly smile when I see a knife that someone is excited about whether it be a sodbuster or anything from there.

To the ones that got away, they are knives. Hopefully someone is appreciating them.

Hi,

The one that got away from me was a 1943 martial marked Victorinox Soldier that would have matched my 1943 K31. I'll probably never find another.

Probably the single blade shadow trapper from Reese Bose that I had for a while. That or my Shadley coke bottle. Both great knives that I never really used to their full potential.

A while back i sold my Case/ Bose Collaboration Muskrat, and I should have sold something else and kept it, because that is a great knife, and hard to find. That blade configuration and size is tough to beat.

I can not remember one I regret giving away, or selling. Those that were given were given because I felt the person was deserving and wanted it or needed it more than I did. I collect a few customs from various makers. I had a Ray Cover that I knew someone really liked. It was boxed up and sent away with no regrets. To my surprise, a large box came in sometime later filled with all sorts of knives, probably over 50 to 60, some old, some odd, a lot of TX toothpicks. I was not trading, but what goes around comes around and I feel as if I was blessed in what ended up as a trade.

The knives I sold were sold for personal reasons and I regret none of those.

Now, as for the one that got away. It is the one I did not win the lottery on from Tony at Blade. That one I regret getting away.:D

I just enjoy the knives and the fellowship of the forum, no regrets here.
I do appreciate all the knives fellow forum buddies have given me the heads up on and helped me add to my collection. Rob, Gus, Blues, Ford, Shebop, Mike R., Vince, J.D.Elam, Gary, J.Culpepper, Hanlon and so many others that this old man can not remember everyone.

Now what was the topic here, I talked so long, I forgot, oh well, no regrets. (Excepting One):D

Without a doubt it was a Lile folder, one of his first ones when he was hand engraving his name on the blades. Fortunately it didn't go far, I gifted it to a nephew. Same nephew also got a very early Sid Birt drop point hunter made while he was still stationed at Grissom AFB.

I had a Ray Cover STAG slippie that I sold to some lucky German... bought a dog (Hank) with the money though. This was the FINEST Sambar Stag that you will EVER see on a slip joint. Problem was, it was SO pretty, that it was a safe queen to me. Mongo don't do safe queen very easily. So, needed the money... sold it, bought a dog, MOST of the time, I think it's a good solid trade. However, when Hank misbehaves, I remind him of just how beautiful a knife I gave up to get him. He doesn't seem to care though.

Of course there are some knives (both factory and Customs) that I'd like to have back, but I guess my years of gun trading and swapping always in search of a better deer rifle or a better varmint rifle had me a little desensitized to the remorse that some guys feel after letting a good one get away:o

I basically share Vince's point of view. No regrets, plenty of new opportunities. Thanks in part to this forum:thumbup:

I have sold several also. Like Vince, and many of others here, I just can't keep them all! Even so, I have enjoyed having the chance to see and enjoy many diferent knives.

The one I probably should have kept that comes to mind right now is a Tony Huffman Whittler. I don't even remember what I got whe I sold it, but I am sure it was a must have item at the time.

I had a Schrade 164UH fixed blade stolen a year ago. It was the knife that I got used to and carried whenever I did outdoors stuff.

Yes, great topic for a thread!

Vince, regarding the ones that got away from you...
I may have a couple as well as a few friends around here. :D

If the regret gets bad they are yours for the asking. ;)

Hoping to fondle one of your former Bose's in a couple of weeks.
