is there a knife for you that you used to own, almost bought, traded off, had stolen, whatever, that huants you with it's memory?

when i was 8, i rode "to town" (70miles) with my dad because he had read about a knife he wanted to buy. we took turns checking it out, all the way back to the small village we lived in. by the time we got home, he had decided he didn't really like it and offered it to me. i was thrilled to no end until my mom saw my new Gerber Frisco Shiv and was like "hell nah!" and quickly confiscated it. i miss that knife, even though i only owned it for 10 minutes :grumpy:

what!?!?! seriously? i'm the only one here who misses a knife i used to have? nobobyelse has any regrets? man, i actually have more and these weren't beyond my control like that one:

broke up with a gf, she made off with a Gerber ez out. not a big deal, kind of a pos

got divorced, lost a mini BM auto that was made before they had safeties, in that deal

sold a BM 42 when i only had ONE.

nobodyelse? or do is it just too painful to talk about?

Well, for me, it would be the Spyderco Viele. I loved the design, had my eye on it for a long while, even went down to the local knife shop to handle one, but it was just too expensive for me at the time, as a college student.

Then I came across it in a catalog at close-out prices. Got all excited, put in an order, but it was too late. By the time I ordered, they were out of stock, and at that price, I'm not surprised.

At the time, I was very disappointed. But now that I could easily buy one, I am not really interested. There are so many other newer knives I would want first.

I sold off a BK7 that had that skull pattern sprayed on it - whatever that stuff is called. Same pattern sprayed on the sheath. Wish I hadn't sold that one. Thats about the only one I regret.

I had a 1950's italian stiletto with a broken spring as a kid...prolly would be worth a bit now, found it outside a old tavern in the garden. Dunno what happened to it though!

Yes ZZ it's painful to recall the details but I will try. It was a stunning red automatic, moved very fast but was a little small to be handled with as much power as it possessed.

No not a Mustang or a vette but a Benchmade I bought like new at a motorcycle show I was at. It was smaller than most of my other "tacticals" and had a real authoritative pop when the blade came out. Beautiful red/burgundy handles with black inserts and a black blade, almost a gentlemens auto. Sounds kind of like your mini BM Auto you describe above.

I carried it a few times and the snap was a little much for how the knife sat in my hand so I let it go too soon when the offer came in for what I paid for it.

What a great little knife and not sure it would have been my most carried sticker but I sure loved how it looked.

Haven't seen one sense so my counselor thanks you for forcing me to dig this back up

Bob

My Spyderco delica 3 :(

Lost it in a trip in Hungry. It was not my first pocket knife; but it was my first spydie and I edc it for almost 4 years. :grumpy:

Benchmade 943 and Ares. Both stolen out of my shorts pocket in a gym 2 years ago. those were by far my 2 favorites at the time. bad day haha.

Yep quite a few- some that I can think of off hand- should have baught em' mach snell- snooze ya lose.

A Japanese WWII bayonet that was at a flea market

a Japanese naval pattern dress sword that had been beat to hell and was in a junk store

A KMT Republican China dress dagger in another junk store

20/20 hindsight can be $%^#! painful in retrospect.

A few years back, you'd sometimes see used BM42's and Cold Steel Arc Angels let go for under $100. And brand new factory second Arc Angels (misstamped) also fell into that price range. And brand new Microtech Dragonflies.

And I was unable to purchase a single one of any of them.

So now, used BM42's are selling for ~$350, and they are more out of reach every single day. The only way I'm going to be able to own one is if some idiot at a pawn shop or gun show doesn't know what he has.

I traded (IIRC) a NIB BM 630 or 760 for a NIB BM42 almost a year ago. Here it is now after Krein double edged it and heat colored the handles.

When i was relocating via greyhound my luggage was overweight, to cut weight i gave a buddy a all my large fixed blades, one of the saddest days of my life. I have since replaced all of them but the cold steel bushman, but i still miss the originals. Also during the same relocation I left my drawknife with my pops, along with many books, he sent the books, but never the drawknife. I was just wishing earlier today that i had a drawknife!
