P1010006.jpgP1010001.jpgP1010007.jpgP1010002.jpgP1010003.jpgG'day, following on from Codgers tireless Schrade research on the history of early Schrade-Walden fixed blades, we know that the patent was' issued' in April of '64.
Some, not many, were manufactured before actual issuance, and these photos show two examples of the very first from 1964. The light blade etch 'Pat. Pend' example was pre serialization, followed by the serial numbered stamped Pat.Pend........there are differences to the font used on 'Old Timer'...and the first sheaths which had the aluminium inserts so that users would not cut the laces when inserted with force...there are even differences to hinge shapes used on the early box's......photos paint a better picture than my words..these are from my Schrade collection and originally belonged to the long standing Camillus CEO, early Schrade-Walden collection..Hoo Roo

It's interesting that the leather laced sheath design as depicted in the 1964 Schrade-Walden flyer was never actually manufactured/issued....or has any member ever seen one?....I certainly havn't.....Hoo Roo

I certainly have not. It would be one to watch for with the unique keeper tab.

The box hinges were patented by the way.

Thread reintroduced to show the earliest 15OT's from 1964 by way of comparison, in response to recent question on the early 15OT...Hoo Roo

Larry and Michael, those vey early sheaths were made, just not sure how many were sold. They were an ugly purplish color with white lacing.:barf:

Nice snags on those recent acquisitions Larry!

Buyers' tastes were very different "back in the day". One need only look at the automobile offerings (styles and color combinations) to see this. But yes, it would not be surprising to know they did indeed make a small quantity of these sheaths and quickly discard them as soon as that initial supply was exhausted. Like the initial gift boxed offering of the Sharpfingers. I've only ever seen the one of those to date. (snatch).

Just looked up the photos of the very earliest Schrade-Walden 15OT's made with their unique sheaths....in relation to recent thread on 15OT's and I thought I would share once again...Hoo Roo

Photos of the Ted Williams 15OT Deerslayer here for info relating to the threads recently raised......Hoo Roo

Interesting History on the 15OT I originally posted some 12 years ago, which may help a recent enquiry on The Deerslayer..
