I am becoming very interested in buying a kukri.
I know HI sells these, and there used to be another importer that sold high quality kukris.
Are they still around, and could someone please point out there website.
Also, does anyone have any preferences over which company is preferable to deal with and has higher quality knive.
thanks.

I think there was Gurlha House, but I am not sure what happened to them. No idea who else.

Ghurka House went under. There is only one importer of high end khuks that I'm aware of besides HI, actually the link to it is in the HI forum, posted a week or two ago. I'll just say that HI gets all my business when it comes to khukuris. They control production from start to finish and the warranty is iron-clad. HI basically has the market cornered for khukuris, with good reason. Check out the HI forum for more info and good company.

Short of packing your bags and heading off to Nepal, there is no one producing anything like HI.

I want to ditto too!!:D ;) I have khuks from both places. The other source no longer exists and that is OK since I have found HI, I need no other source for Khukuris!! :D

I've got an HI 15" AK that I keep next to couch now instead of my .45 in case anyone is stupid enough to break in. I just ordered another one, and I tell all my friends that an HI khuk is THE choice in khukuris.

In other words, another ditto. :)

I asked about buying a khukuri a few months ago, and I recieved a similar onslaught of dittos reccomending HI. I bought the HI khukuri, and I love the thing.

At our last NJ Knife Collectors Association lunch and show & tell, one of the guys brought in a lot of their blades. Very impressive work. I decided to spend some money :)

I'll guess their service on kukris is probably the same as on their other products. I ordered a Kumar Karda and it arrived in just 5 days, and that includes a weekend. The price covers shipping & handling so what they charge is what you pay, without guessing at what percentage they'll add on.

They must use a special steel because the blade is unbelievably thick but it just sort of floats when you pick it up and ... ouch! :D Relax, I know better than to wave anything this sharp around carelessly!

Esav, I saw that look on your face when your where checking out the one I brought to the meeting, and I knew... congratulations of your first, but probably not last HI.:D

If you want a chance to get your feet wet without spending any money check out the link to the WWII passaround in my signature. Don't do it unless you're prepared to end up getting one of your own though; because you probably will. :D
