Wow! That's one interesting blade profile. :D Makes me wonder what it looked like new. Thanks for sharing!:thumbup:

It was probably a standard machete profile in the beginning. When I was boundary surveying, we used and sharpened our machetes so much that after about 3 months, they looked like huge fillet knives.

Oh I realize that--but of course there is subtle variation between identical patterns by different makers. It always fascinates me how many different takes on a classic Latin machete you can get!

Looking at the handle area, it may not have started life as a machete at all. It could have been something someone made themself.

I like that design. But like the one brother said I would also like to see what that piece looked like originally. Because I'd bet my wallet and it's contents ( which ain't much :o) that it wasn't designed like that originally.

Machetes and Kukri's are both extremely useful tools. Actually the design of this machete you have pictured is pretty much the opposite of a Kukri or conventional machete design. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it has working potential.

Well the price was certainly right. There's always a bunch of good tools at garage and estate sales. And most of the people have little idea what they are really worth.

Be particularly aware of the British made machetes that are out there. Most of them were made either at the Sheffield or Martindale foundries and most of them are great. I got a Sheffield/Willet machete last fall for $2. I've yet to find any good ones at flea markets though:(
