I was out building a utility trailer yesterday afternoon when the unthinkable happened. I torn a nice 1.5 inch gash open on my lefty pinky running from below the nail and over the first knuckle. I gouged some bone and nicked a muscle but I missed the tendon. Seems there was a stray sliver of metal hanging off of the L-beam I was working with. It made a pretty clean slice and went pretty deep. It was to the bone and I bled like a stuck pig. I swear it looked like someone got shot in my driveway! I would have taken pics but my 5 y/o saw me do it and I had to wrap it quick before she freaked out. It took alot not to swear and curse because she was around. She did the right thing though after she realized I hurt myself. She went into the house and got my medic bag and my cell phone for me without me asking. I've taught her well. I had to wait about 1/2 an hour until my wife got home before I went to get it stitched up. I was in and out of the ER in about an hour with 6 stitches on the outside and 4 on the inside.

Yeowch! Sorry to hear about your injury, I hope you have a speedy recovery. It sounds like your little girl is following in Daddy's footsteps.

You ever notice how people can go through years of hazardous duty unscathed and then end up in the ER because of the old "honey do" list?

LOL. Yeah. Most of those injuries are incurred as the result of not doing what's on the Honey-Do if you get my meaning.

"Honey, put down the bat! I'll fix the sink! I'll fix the sink!!! YEEEEEEOOOOCH!!!!"

Ken,

It's good to read that you didn't do any tendon damage, but you didn't nick a nerve did you? After that, make sure to watch out for infection; I'm sure you know the signs.

Heal well.:).

I don't think I nicked a nerve. I still have feeling throughout my whole finger and pain is a good indication.

You got a cut on your pinky and you took stitches? Were you wearing a dress at the time? Or maybe leotards?

Last time I checked the pinky finger is pretty small. Getting a cut on something like that is pretty laughable. Did the doctors give you a lollipop after they sewed you up?

Oh crap, this isn't W&C, is it?

OUCH!Sorry to hear about that,I did something similar to my index finger a while back.Keep it clean, keep it covered,er,I guess I don't have to tell ya.

Ken, she picks up on more than you think! :D

Yep, you trained your girl right. Looking out for her dad.
Last time I did a stitch needing cut, it was with a newly sharpened one inch chisel I stuck in my hand.
Nice clean cut that didn't hurt at all. Just about half an inch in, and it looked like a scratch till I opened it up to see how deep it was.
Hope it doen't bother you too much.
Take care of it and get well soon, ya Bastid.

ouch! Yep I have gottten hurt more building stuff than any other time. Metal can be very unforgiving. I grew up with lots of woodworking time. You find that you tend to "rub" and "feel" the wood alot and when you transition to metal old habits die hard. Nothing quite like a slice from a frech cut steel with a sliver or picking up a fresh torch cut piece of steel without the gloves on  wood never had THOSE issues! Cool response from you daughter

Jeeze that sucks, I hate it when I get cuts on my fingers! At least it is only the pinky finger, and not the index. Just think, while it is healing you can drink tea like a proper gentleman, with your pinky finger extended. :D
are you current on your tetanus shot?
Your kid seems to be better trained for emegencies than many adults- very cool.

I got quite a chuckle out of her dragging my medic bag from the house. It is pretty damn heavy. I keep enough stuff in there to aid in a mass casualty incident if I ever needed to. She did good though and that's what matters and I am very proud of her for taking such care of her daddy.

hope your boo boo gets all better!

:D

see ya this weekend?
