Here's one for you old BF.com guys. How many of you remember the Pass Around Bowie from 1999?

Guess what? It's home. My friend L6, alias Mike Cooper, finally has it back in his possession. I imagine he will be posting pictures of it soon.

Talk about an awesome piece. This Bowie had like a gazillion knifemakers work on it (well, quite a few :)).

There might have been some hard feelings about it taking so long, but I would like to thank all the makers that spent time working on it.. Thank you, guys.

It would be very interesting to see the Millenium Bowie as it looks today. Boy, that knife sure take a long time to make it back home.

Holy cow!!

I was just considering asking about it the other day. I had some reservations about it because i didn't want to stir up hard feelings. Seems like about a dozen different makers were lending a hand on this knife.
I'd really like to see some pics of it. Is it finished?

I figured that had been used in a crime and thrown in a river. Get some pics up when you can. That had everyone in on it back in the day...lol :)

Got a peek at it at Blade. (What Dave said :D).

Hey guys, I was floored when I opened the package as saw the knife for the first time!!!
I expected it to be nice but it is was amazing!!
I took some pictures today and this is one of them. I'm sending them to Phil so he can work his magic on them and then they'll get posted here.
We're still working out the finer points of everything concerning the raffle and all.
Man, I surely never expected a simple post to turn into a 5 year long project but it has become an awesome experience!
I know Rob is watching us with that trade mark smile of his and I hope we make him proud!!

Here's a list of the folks that worked on the knife and what they added to it.
I came up with the design and cut out the blade and sent it to the Jones brothers.
Barry Jones did the most fantastic flat grind you could imagine on the blade and sent it to Rob Simonich.
Rob heat treated the blade and then sent it to Alan Folts.
Alan did some awesome file work down the spine and top of the tang and then sent it back to the Jones Brothers.
Barry reground the blade and handed it off to Phillip.
Phillip gave the blade a super fine hand polishing and sent it to Michael Anlage.
Michael made a brass guard and brass bolsters and did some fine file work in the edges of the guard and sent the package to Kit Carson.
Kit tackled the very difficult job of silver soldering the brass guard to the 440c blade and did an outstanding job of it! He then sent it to Bruce Bump.
Bruce fit up the mastodon ivory handles, that were donated by Bruce Evans, and the brass bolsters to the knife and then sent it on to Thomas Morro.
Thomas did the excellent engraving on the bolsters and sent the knife to Jens Anso.
Jens made a beautiful alligator skin sheath that features a removable frog. The alligator skin was donated by Marcel J.B. Morin. Jens then sent the knife and sheath to Anders Johansen.
Anders wife, Viveca Sahlin, did the most amazing scrimshanding I've ever seen!
Well, then the knife found it's way to Bruce Bump I believe it was and then to Kit again and then finally back home to me.
Quite a trip for a piece of steel!
Wish there was a way we could figure out the number of miles it's traveled in it's making.
Aint often I feel special or good about myself but this is one time I do. :)
Take care folks and God Bless!

That handle looks great....let's see the rest of it! :p

I'm impressed that you guys stuck to it and got it finished. I was dreading that it got stuck in a drawer somewhere.

Mike deserves to feel good about this piece...actually you all deserve a pat on the back. A collaberation between two people is tough...12-13 people ( I lost count) is miraculous. Good job guys and gal!

Too bad there arn't that many of us still around that remember the beginnings of this endevor. :(

I've been looking forward to seeing this thing done for a long time now. I thought maybe I had missed it when the knife was finished. 5 years is a long time coming. Congratuations guys. Hurry up and shows us some pics.

Soon guys, soon!!
Sheesh, it took 5 years to make it, won't be but a few more days to get the pix posted. :)

Some of us are still around, Tom... just been lurking quietly for a few years.

I remember when the pass-around started. Great work by everyone involved.

Wow....heard about this one a ways back, but figured it was a goner....glad to see it finished!!

I was in on this one a few years ago and I must say I had my doubts that she would ever get done but the understanding at the time was to not hurry and to not put it ahead of a paying job. It has been about 5 years I think. She came out pretty nice. Some of the makers are now rich and famous and one has gone to the happy hunting ground. This bowie could tell some stories of all the shops and knife makers hands she has been in, the air miles are somewhere in the thousnds. She belongs in the collection of somebody from this forum because nobody else can fully appreciate all the trouble she has seen. I for one am glad she has come home
