This day has been a train wreck, but I was happy to see a box on the porch from USPS. The ESEE-5 has landed. I unboxed it and went through the contents and gave the knife the adaman04 cleaning treatment. Just as with all my ESEEs, the scales, though dirty when they arrived, look like new again.
The coating has seen better days, namely at the tip from being stabbed in to things and at the line of the sabre grind from batoning, which was to be expected. The tip is somewhat blunted and there is some rust at the locations where the coating is missing, which should clean up fine. The scales are unscathed except for a little friction burn from the bowdrill testing but it looks like they held up very well.
The knife arrived with one of the sharpest edges I've felt in a long time, but at the expense of the serrations. The pic shows it pretty well, but they're pretty much gone. Looks like a fair amount of material was removed and it's got a recurve-esque area where the serrations once were.
There were some extras thrown in as well, thank you TTD for the SERE fire kit (awesome) and the Katie's Lanyards. Also thanks to whoever included the paracord bracelet, firesteel, lanyards and cord, poor man's molle locks (zip ties
) etc.
This will not be the last installment of The Pass Around ESEE-5. I've got a couple of ideas and will post some pics and more review info as I get out and use the knife some more.
Thanks so much to ESEE for donating a knife for a bunch of monkeys to beat on and to TTD for herding the cats.
