The Passing of Sir Edmund Hillary

Thanks, Eric. Didn't know a lot of that.

I DO know a dog named Tenzing, though.

I was reading about his death last night. I had no idea that he had done so much to help the people of Nepal. May God bless him for all the good work he did.

Climb high, Ed, Climb high.
God bless you for your Humanitarianism(sp?) and your Humility.

This is very sad news for me and rest of the peoples of Nepal. I went to school and college with Sir Edmund Hillary's scholarship and without his help I would never have the opportunity to get education. May God bless you and rest in peace Sir Edmund.

Just visted Widsor castle and was shown Sir Ed's coat of arms and seat in St georges Chapel. His heraldic device was a Kiwi(the bird) holding an ice axe in its claw. This on a background symbolising the white peaks of the Himalayas. These will now be remove from the chapel although his helm and nameplate will remain in perpetuity.

It would be fair to say that all New Zealanders and many Nepalese would have keenly felt the loss of Sir Ed. His body will be lying in state on Monday at St Mary's Chapel Remuera in Auckland followed by a state funeral on Tuesday, to give the public of NZ the chance to say goodbye. There is even talk of inaugurating a new national holiday in his honour. may God offer a measure of condolences to his family during this sad time, and I myself would like to bid farewell to a man who became the comsummate New Zealander. Rest in peace.
Regards
Nigel
