Happy Holidays, all.

I've been searching for a production, non-assisted, non-Bali folder with ALL of the following attributes (IMHO, optimized for EDC utility / self defense), and I'm not having much success. Any suggestions or thoughts?

1. G10 scales
2. sub 4" blade
3. Finger guard or substantial cutout in the handle
4. A handle shorter than 5", but stout enough to fill a hand and minimize backward slippage
5. Weight less than 5 ounces
6. Lockback, Axis or Compression Lock
7. Less than $200

The representative ones that come close that I can find are the BM 721 (handle could be longer, finger cutout could be better), BM 710 (no finger guard), AFCK (a bit too long), Paramilitary (low finger guard), Mini Manix (too heavy), Camillus Dominator Non-Assisted (Ti handles, framelock), ATR (too long, too heavy, metal handles).

I would think that a knife that meets these criteria would sell unbelievably well.

I have a Spec Bump, and I generally like it, but there's a lot of blade play in mine, which makes me nervous. A bit heavy, also, and I don't like the weird blade shape that much (but it does look pretty cool).

Definitely A Spyderco Manix. But I would get the combo edge if you are wanting to do a lot of utilitarian work with it. Also the Spyderco Chinook II has a lot of the same attributes.

Bk400,

I can't tell you how the lock-up is because, unfortunately, I don't own an Ocelot (yet).

But it does meet your required specifications and I have had great success and have been very pleased with Spyderco knives.

I will probably be getting an Ocelot for myself in the next few months--it seems about the perfect size for an EDC.

Good luck,
Allen.

You think the Mini Manix is too heavy?

I think you should go with the Paramilitary, you will not be dissapointed. There's a guy over at KF that does WAVE modifications to Paramilitaries and also makes some nice titanium low carry clips. I use my Para very often and I love it.

Another knife you should consider is the Al Mar SERE 2000. Although it is a liner lock, the lock up is flawless and it's built like a tank.

The Yojimbo. Specifically designed handle to be used as a pommel for self defense with a super penetrating style point on the modified Wharncliff blade that is akin to carrying a big stanley knife on you all day and available in a nice sheeple friendly blue color and equipped with an MBC rated lock for security and strength. What more could you ask for in an EDC defense knife?

If you want a good edc and don't mind spending a few bucks contact Greg Lightfoot. I have his stealth 460 mag and for being a sub 4" blade the thing is remarkable. Opens like it is put together with well oiled ball bearings. Rock solid and lazer sharp. Classy too. keepem sharp

PS for straight s.d. I would think an early Military model or para mili would suffice. Also one of there lock backs like the Mannix, Chinook, etc.
