The perfect gun for home invasion protection?

Why don't you get one for dear old Dad, then he would not have to worry about Harry. (inside joke, Harry is currently serving 3-10). I think that would be an excellent idea for a Christmas present.

I watched that futureweapons segment a couple of weeks ago; a frightening weapon.

Can be used with a wide variety of "tactical" shotshells as well, including a grenade-type.
 
Reminds me of the Spider. A multi barrel device with 16 or even 32 barrels placed in two over lapping circles. The effect was that upto 100m all the shot patterns would over lap using SSG. Generally fitted to the roof of small sedans they were very effective at suppressing ambushes from guys in the ditch or in light cover. The driver could then keep his eye on the road for landmines or obstructions.

The police made a point of checking forward and rear barrels were clear in civilian convoys.
 
300 Rounds Per Minute doesn't happen. It fires what's in the magazine, and then you go down until the mag is changed out - and that takes a long time with a drum mag.

A pump 20 gauge is preferred in the situation. Large enough to control an intruder, small enough mama will pull the trigger without worrying she'll get hurt.

As for firepower, google up Metal Storm. Theoretical 1 million rounds - yes, 1,000,000 rounds per minute - and watch the video shooting through multiple solid core doors. Obviously not a BATF approved home defense weapon, but impressive.
 
What about heat buildup and plastic shells would they not melt? I remember reading about an autoshotgun in the 80's but it used metal shells for that reason.
