Greetings everyone. This is my first post so please bear with me.Recently,On a trip back fron Ky on a hunting trip I began searching for a large bladed knife that would suffice as a self defense tool for hoghunting.I searched "long blades" and such things as "Billy's predator knife". Somehow I stumbled across "worlds toughest knives" where the kukri style blade stood out. I immediately knew this was the ultimate tool-weapon for the job.Dont get me wrong ,I have absolutely nooooo intent on taking on a wild pig with a knife if I dont just have to. However ,this kukri blade would be a good "insurance" policy. The place where I hunt them is public land as I got out of my hunting club. Here in Georgia, the regs require one to use a muzzleloading rifle this time of year.Of course this means one shot is all you get, after that its all up to the hog or hogs. Anyway, I settled on the Kabar kukri.I didnt have to spend a lot but was well pleased with what I got.Its razor sharp and tough.Feels great in the hand and has a very slip-resistant grip. Only one thing was wrong, I wanted one of those lovely hand-made blades from HI or Tora.Long story short I now own Kabar and a old kukri from AC with a very nice scabbard.Oh, I also have two more from Tora on the way.One is a sirupate and probably my fav will be the Ang Khola.Ive decided to use the Kabar for my work, the sirupate in the kitchen and the Ang Khola for hunting.Im afraid I may want to collect these things to some degree but I want to be very cautious and not get jipped.Anyway,in another post I would like to ask a fair number of questions if there are any out there with some fairly substantial knowledge.Thanks.

Welcome to the forum oldirty. I couldn't agree more on the "insurance policy" that the kukri provides. I have an 18" Ganga Ram Special, and it is as formidable as it is imposing. Obviously as the dimensions and weight increase, dexterity will suffer. That is about as substantial my knowledge is. I'm 6'3" and 260lbs and 18" kukri all I need. YMMV.

Welcome!

Himalayan Imports has their own forum, here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/739-Himalayan-Imports

There are a lot of places to go on Bladeforums, and if you're looking for something specific, it can be a little overwhelming!

The HI sub-forum is a great place to ask questions, and get advice about all things Kukri (or Kukhri; same thing).

If you have a question, you can also contact Auntie through the sub-forum. She runs HI, and answers emails very quickly.

Thanks shorttime,I'll have to try that when I get more time.By thway, dont you have to get one of the plans to post photos?

A Gurka Kukri is about as formidable a backup hand weapon as you are likely to find. One thing though. They are tricky to sharpen given the curvature of the blade. Unless you are really proficient at hand sharpening, Id have a pro knife sharpener dude do that part of it. (Just me...I would worry about screwing up the grind myself). As for my own backup self-defense plan, I spent a bit more than the kukri mentioned and got two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They work just fine and never need sharpening. :D

Welcome to the forum, and you will fit right in here. I did not buy three or four of anything until I started hanging out here. You are well ahead of the game:)

Welcome to the forum oldirty! I look forward to seeing some pics when you can get them posted.

I'm really ready to post specs and pictures just really busy with work right now.I've got to get a scale that measures grams also.
