I have a set of the only Spyderco serration sharpener that I have ever seen that properly sharpens this type of serration. It consists of two ceramic rods (one fine and one medium grit) that have the exact profile of the serrations formed into one side of each stick. When you lay the serrations on the rod at the proper angle and glide the blade straight down the rod it makes them better than new provided there is not serious damage to the serrations.

My question to anyone is - Have you seen these before and do you know a source for them? A call to Spyderco yeilded no help; apparently they did not make them. They are the best thing for this task and I guard them carefully from damage, but would like to have another set.

Thanks for any help or info. Please email with any leads.

I have had them for many years (maybe 20). I probably got them from a wholesaler that I buy from and I checked with them recently with no luck finding more or the manufacturer.

Vince what are they made of? Are they ceramic? Or are they novaculite maybe? Don't you have any recollection of where you might have got them. Maybe a mail order house? I can see how those would work great.

THis is reminescent of Spyderco's GALLEY V sharpening kit with the "Cat's Eye" shaped sharpening stones. I have used them for so many things. Particularly the Cat's eye stones are perfect for the Dodo and some of the recurves. Great tool but no one seems to care about or know about them either

I have a hand held ceramic sharpening stone from lansky with the grooves precut for coldsteel's serrations. I will check lanskys site for a Spyderco stone.

They are the same ceramic material that Spyderco sharpeners are made of.

Hi Vjb.Knife,

They were in fact made by Spyderco many years ago in an attempt to create a sharpening stone that could be used to "re-serrate", or sharpen existing Spyderco serrrations or even create serrations on a plain edge.

We did one run, probably no moe than 1000 pcs.

They do make one. I saw it in the little brochure that came with my sharpener.

I kind of thought that they came from Spyderco but, if that is the case then I better guard these like gold because there is nothing that does a better job on Spyderco serrations. That is too bad that they don't make them any more. I checked Lansky's site as well as DMT, EZE Lap and any other big sharpener makers that I could find and none have a similar item.

Any chance of bringing those back Mr. Glesser? I can see where they would have great control for certain serration patterns.

Also I don't know if you've seen it or not but a few of us over on the Spyderco.com Forum have talked about the possibility of making some kind of a base for 701 Profiles similar to the one for the 204 Sharpmaker. The 701 Profiles is truly a favorite sharpening tool of mine. It sure would be nice if we had a base/block to set the angles for them just like for the triangle stones for the 204 kit.

I'd buy some if they brought them back.

How would that work, given that it looks like the hump on the right is wider than either of the grinds on a set of Spyderco serrations? Which humps are the ones made to fit into the serrations -- the center one and the left one, or the center one and the right one? It's hard to tell if that right side hump is the correct width for the large serration on a Spyderco.

Jeff, if you take a Spyderco serrated knife, turn it bevel down and rotate it until you are sighting right along that bevel, you can see those stones are a nearly perfect match (maybe perfect, depending on the wear and initial aggresiveness of your particular serrations). It was a great idea Mr. Glesser, and now that I have some serrations to take care of, I'd love to see them make a comeback. :D

Lansky's spyderedge sharpener.

I'd love to get my hands on a set of the sapphire spyderco stones though. If there was some sort of adapter for the 204 to make these fit or another base all together I'd have to have one. :D
