Over the last 50 years, there have been a few changes to the standard 110. If you could custom order a standard 110, what past and/or present features would you pick? Free feel to add to the list if I missed something.

Blade material: 440C, 425M or 420HC

Blade style: (Old style) California clip, soft grind, heavy convex edge or (new style) Bowie clip, crisp grind, Edge 2000

Frame: Squared, rounded or finger grooves

Scales: Macassar ebony or Dymondwood

Pins: Number and size (small or large)

Sheath material: Leather or nylon

Belt loop: Fold over or flat

I have a 1969. I haven' t handled any older than that, but it is my favorite out of any of my 110's.
I love the shape of the clip, and it feels a bit lighter than any of my newer ones. ( I have a 1972, a 1974-1980, a 1980-1986 and several of the newer ones.) and it will actually ride vertical in my pocket without falling down. I'd like to see them made to the specs of the originals.

Thanks Bad. I didn't even know about the Federal.

The LE "Federal" released last year is almost perfect.

Badhammer is right. I just got both the 1st Version and the Federal out for an in-hand comparison. The Federal is slightly heftier, the clip has a slightly sharper radius and the grind is not quite the same, but it is close. The changes made in the Federal make it a sturdier knife. I wish Buck would make something like the Federal a continuing knife in the catalog.

One other change I'd like to see in something like the "Federal" is to stamp "BUCK" horizontally on the blade like the Version 1. They can still stamp the model #, date code and USA at the base of the blade, just move the "BUCK" and really stamp nice and deep.

Also, mostly for aesthetics, make the nail nick more like the 1st Version.

I like drop points so that would be my first call. Then I'd like to see Buck bring out the 110 with a small headed screw at the blade pivot. To increase strength. DM

Finger grooved black G10, BOS heat treated S30V satin finished. Nickel bolsters, red liners, pocket clip, over sized right hand only thumb stud drilled and installed by JAG from the knifemaker end of the forum as he would actually place the thumb stud in a much more geometrically ergonomic and actually functional spot. I own the new Lochsa unfortunately. The knife is done perfectly except for the half assed thumb studs installed in a near totally unusable spot. They are worthless. One either has to have large very strong hands to use them without straining or have freakishly long fingers. For what I paid for my Lochsa I could have gotten a JAG custom 110 with an over sized thumb stud correctly placed.

I'll take a forged brass frame,440c California clip with a full convex edge and some real wood handles and brass pins to hold em on .and a real leather sheath ...

For me, the 2 dot 110s are just about perfect. The only change that I would make would be to eliminate the nail notch.

I forgot the sheath. I'd prefer brown, distressed leather with the fold over belt loop. Pretty standard but I want something other than basic black. The same sheath designed for dedicated horizontal carry would be great too! Biggest problem though is belt width. I prefer a 1.5" wide gun belt for concealed carry. I haven't tried a nylon sheath even though it offers horizontal carry but I don't think it will accommodate a belt that wide. A dedicated leather probably wouldn't either without making the loop wider than the sheath.

The Buck- lites with the washer style pins do increase the strength of the pivot pin. By probably 50%. I think that style pin with a 1/16th inch larger outside diameter washer. Would result in a very strong pivot pin. In stainless of course. Add a handle material like micarta or the woven stuff (paperstone might work) (G-10 is heavy) and now you have a unit that is light, strong and tough. That would be very hard to spread apart during use. This would not take much modification upon an existing design to pull off. DM
