Hi,
like you guys know,I just purchased a LM Pulse. The pusle is was the almost perfect multi tool for my needs...until today when it became perfect!! All it needed was a simple yet tricky modification:
Adding a metal saw without removing any other tools.
It was a success! :D (I know I just terminated my 25 years warranty...ask me if I care  )
Next modification: Adding a pocket clip!

wish I could post a pic but it seem's that this forum wont allow
Email me and I will gladly send a pic.

First I got the screw unscrewed using 2 vice-grip plier, gripping each screw very firmly. And let me tell you that they(screws)are super hard to unscrew!!
When I finaly got them out (screws) of the handle then all the tool,2 small washers and locking piece fell on my work bench! I got a bit worried...but Leatherman tools are as easy to put back together then legos :)
I did not change anything about the order of the tools originaly...So first came the:

-bottle/can opener back in
-then the Phillip screwdriver
-super small flat screwdriver
-then my mod metal saw*-one small washer
-metal/wood file
-and finally the awl

note: the remaining washer was not use I dont think it would have fitted back in

To build the metal saw, I took a usual metal saw blade, cut it about the same length as the metal/wood file.
Then I enlarged the hole of the metal saw (using a drill) the same size as the rest of the tool so that it could fit in the handle screw I had removed. I rounded the end and then I put the metal/wood file on top of my little (now cut down and rounded up) metal saw and used a marker to trace the shape of the tool. I used a grinder (you can use a file also) to grind the metal saw the shape of the tool but ONLY grind the end piece where the tools lock and not the whole shape of the file cause you will have a hard time getting the metal saw out once put back together!
I them made a notch the same size as the rest of the tool so that my NEW metal saw can lock like the rest of mu pulse's tools.
I finaly put it all back together like mentioned in the top page.

Have fun!

Here is a picture of Balex's modified Pulse. Must be the only Leatherman tool with a real metal saw right? Very creative.

nice! how are you going to replace it, if **** happens?

Well...I usualy use the metal saw for wood, plastic and bone, rerely for metal so it will take a while before it gets damaged. But If I need to replace it I will do it simply like this:

Unscrew the 2 handles screw (I will later replace the handle screws with a simple bolt and nut of some sort for a quicker access.) Take only ghe awl, file and small washer out replace the damaged or broken metal saw with a new one and BINGO!! It takes about 20 minutes or less.

I dont know if I'm cool?...but I know that my pulse is cool! :D

I'm sure that all leatherman tool have screws. As for SAK I would not know for sure? Some one with a SAK could maybe give you a clue?

Hi,

I think you'll find that the Victorinox knives use a headed rivet under the plastic scales as their method of construction. The Swisstool multitools (including the upcoming Spirit) all appear to use rivets as well.

Hope this is useful.

No, rivits (if that is what is actually being used in the swiss tool and sak) do not unscrew. They are two peices that are pressed together.

thx!so i think swiss tool is better than LM....becos it built like a tank.... ;)

I wonder if it would be possible to add this kind of metal saw to the Charge models, by just giving to one end of the saw the -removable clip / lanyard ring- shape and plug it in the charge, without wasting the warranty...
would the removable clip concept be solid enough?

well I still have to wait until christmas to have the Charge Ti... :grumpy: at least I'll have it this year :)

Thats a darn good idea !!

Maybe LM could release a whole package of extra tools which could slot into the lanyard fixing !!

Kick Ass !!
