No two ways about it with this one. Made in China or not, value priced or not, its one of the better little China made folders I think I've ever handled. I'd own this knife no problem or hesitation. Its that nice! How nice you say?

Ok check this out. Keep in mind that its the only example of this folder I have seen but based on past samplings of others from the same point of origin I am betting there is a high consistency with these, especially these that have the Spyderco logo on them in particular. 4 .125" closed, just over 6.75" long open and 3.5 ounces. Its got a flat ground blade, and a very well done one too I might add, as I've had many higher priced knives that don't cut as well or have the edge geometry this one has on it currently and right out of the box at that! Blade is 8Cr13Mov which contrary to popular belief is not that bad when done right both for how its ground and how its heat treated. I mean seriously, if you use AUS8 or AUS6, 420HC or any of the 440 A blades this one is certainly not lesser IMO or in my experience testing it. If it is it is not by much. The Persistence sports black textured G10 scales, a tip up or down carry option for right hand carry for the pocket clip and it does have a lanyard hole, albeit a covered over one now due to the owner wanting one of my blue jean blue low rider pocket clips built for it.

Perhaps the best part is the lock. The lock up is as good as the best I've tested at any time in the past including some many many times the price point of this knife and its a stainless steel lock that is .065 thickness with a matching same thickness non locking side liner on this folder! The total width of the folder is, according to my micrometer, .423 thickness or about the same as a typical Emerson folder. The blade is a .123 thickness on this one and the build is an open design using stand offs. Quite impressive Spyderco! As a final note, one of the other things I like about this folder besides the perfect EDC size, lock thickness and great contact is the fact that when opened for use, even without a choil your index finger is positioned so that it physically sits right over the blade so the only way this folder is closing on your hand or fingers in use is to first lift up your index in a hard grip which quite honestly would be the first sign that something was not right giving the user a chance to notice rather than a chance to get in line at the ER for some sutures!

You know a while back I said the 5.11 Investigator was a great bargain knife and perhaps one of the best if not the best I've found in recent years. This is the best deal I have found to date in 09 and at the price point of this knife for the guys wanting a bare bones get after it cheap user I don't see at this writing anything that comes close. I can see why folks are out of stock on this model. This is what I call a home run albeit one I'd have let fly under my radar, (yeah, the China thing. Sorry Sal) had it not been sent to me by a customer for a pocket clip.

Seriously folks. We should give a big round of applause to Sal for this one. Somebody has been doing some serious oversight to knock one out of the park this knice. (I invented that word there I think. Its very knice! :D)

Nice review and great looking clip, it was also sneaking under my radar. I'll have to go check it out. Thanks

I figured it would be flying under the radar for many so that was one of my reasons for posting my thoughts.

Forgot to mention the liners have weight reduction holes drilled out to make it so its not as heavy as it would be with solid steel .065 liners. Otherwise I think I covered it pretty well in a nutshell description.

I like the description, I think I'll have to pick one up to match my Tenacious.

Is that the blue jean colored clip?

I got a Tenacious for my little sister and I was very impressed with it. In fact, I may have kept it for myself and got her something else if I hadn't got my Military at the same time. The Persistence seems too small for me, but maybe I should give it a try.

STR,

Nice write-up. I tried to tell'em over at the Spydie forum but low level of interest.
That'll change when they get around to handling one. It's been in my pocket since the day it arrived at the house.

Thanks for doing this one for me Steve! The pics look great, can't wait to get it when I get back in town.

Very nice looking clip. I have had a Persistence for about two weeks now and have been completely impressed with it.

btw, how is the pocket clip on the persistance? It looks neat. Is it rugged and sturdy?

The original clip looked like a mini Para or Military clip only with no curve to it. Seemed to be about the same standard thickness as most all the rest of the clips being made to me.

just picked up a persistence yesterday. like it very much even though I haven't had a chance to cut anything with it. btw my pocket clip is the same one as on the tenacious.

Looks like I own one now too. Picked up one in a trade for work from a barter deal. Love it!

It's big brother, the Tenacious is just as good. A lot of folks automatically wrote it of because of the "China" thing, but it is an amazingly well-built knife for the price. Kudos to Sal and Spyderco for that one as well.
