The Phantom Rep Point Abuser

There is a clown who has resurrected an ancient thread, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=301654&page=2&pp=20 from in the Political Arena and has been dinging people who disagreed with the rather contentious subject of the thread and with its banned author with negative rep points. This appears to me to be an abuse of the whole Rep Point system and I suggest that those who promised that it would not be so abused need to look into it. It is my guess that it is Caesar Augustus nee Octavian nee Caligula or whatever. He still seems to be out there doing his phantom attacks on people.

I suspect that it's not technically possible given the forum software, but if it is possible, I'd suggest disabling the rep points in the political forum and in W&C. These are places where arguments are expected and encouraged and the whole rep point system doesn't make sense in that context.

I strongly suspect, though, that the forum software as we have it today won't support that.

I run a forum, although with a different brand of software, so I have an inkling of how they work. Some features are global, some can be configured by user group, forum or user. I suspect that the rep points thing can only be turned on or off globally but it has some limited configurations that can be applied to user groups.

I think some people tend to take the thing a little too seriously!

I'm looking into this. Everybody involved in this one please post the date and time stamps on the ratings that you consider suspicious.

I was dinged, so was emmanuel and esav. The points have fallen off the list so I dont have time and date.

I got a red one for not giving something away when I got to 2000 posts but I figured that was just one of the pirates playing silly buggers.

Let me clarify: I am trying to identify Caesar Augustus if he has sneaked back after being banned. I want date/time stamps on ratings that might have been made by him so I can see who made them; that could help identify him.

Sorry, I don't need to hear about every negative ever received by everybody. (Apparently almost everybody but me considers every negative they receive abusive....)

If I find Caesar Augustus has sneaked back I'll ban him again. The ratings he gives are insignificant; they'll be overwhelmed by the votes of all the members who don't have their heads up their bungholes -- but they might help me catch him.

Well, now! I find that a surprising response from a long-time member. " 'Curiouser and curiouser,' said Alice."

Why surprising? We have lots of long-time members who say pretty much the same thing out in the open.

We may not actually have a phantom dinger. Lets just keep posting them here as they come up and we'll see who's at it.

Well, the pissy comment question was resolved. It was an accident by someone trying to understand the rep point system. :)

There's a dead skunk in the middle ...

Mystery rep dings:

red: 03-01-2005 02:32 AM
purple: 03-18-2005 05:20 PM (points to the post where I first asked about the original rep point!)

I don't know what time zone is recorded there; I'm in PST.
