I had seen them before . Neat blade shape . The handle ? Garden variety , yet its amazing what one can find in ones garden . I just had others in mind . Then they were brought to my attention again and this time I couldn,t resist .

Neat doesn,t cover it when it comes to the grind or shape of the blade . It reminds me of a miniature sword . Handle a little short in comparison to blade . That is common among swords as well .

I,ll have to make a simple sheath for it . Something old timey to match its pioneer looks .

I know some are more jaded and peculiar or is that sophisticated and particular ?
I am still at the stage where I find interest in most blades . I hope I don,t grow out of that stage .

I like the "sticker" pattern, but I prefer to make mine single edged in contrast to the more authentic double edged ones. Old Thumbcutter don't mind cutting thumbs, just not his own. ;)

Looking at a "real" sticker, you can see that thumbcutting would be quite possible

How to keep your hand from slip sliding on a double edged knife with no guard? Here's how Ragnar of Ragweed Forge squares that away. Nice

I love the Old Hickory pig sticker in all her simple glory. I have one that i have been the tar out of, sharpened with a file, beat it some more, and sharpened it again. A great utility knife for a great price that i use around the office. I bought it on a whim for fun, fully expecting to destroy it. When it held up really well, I went ahead and darkened the blade with an acid etch and gave the handle more of a tacky grip by wrapping it in heavy waxed nylon thread that I use for my sheathes. feels great:)

Then there is the spanish Puntilla knife which is used at the end of a bullfight to sever the spinal cord just behind the bull's head. A classic sticker if there ever was one.

N2S I,ll have to look at a couple of other picks of that bad boy . All I can say is ouch .

Actually unless I bought another sticker to use and one to keep I want to upgrade this one a bit .

I just like the lines of the blade too much . Don,t get me wrong this is a knife that is run off fairly quick . I am not up enough on blade terminology . I can just say the grind is a little uneven .

It is still a striking blade . If the lines were a little cleaner this would be a knife to grace formal attire . Perhaps this is stretching it a little . Lets say if you were dressed in a good grade of buckskins or other pioneer garb a cleaned up version of this knife would top it all off .

I have one of Ragnar's. I've finished the blade [see below](superglue), but left the shape unmodified. I would do it differently next time: I've cut myself more often on that blade than any other I own. And always on the edge that's pointing up. One forgets about the double edge...

(This comes from rushing while at work. I didn't finish the BLADE, I finished the HANDLE with superglue. Thanks to Kevin for pointing that out).

Here is an oversized version of a puntilla knife made by Bill Seigle. The thing is 16 inches long, and made from 1/4" 5160. The handle is generous and 3/4 of an inch thick. There are no stray edges to hurt you and the pommel is solid enough to allow you to use your other hand to drive this thing home.
