so i fill like i'm at this point where i want to buy my first custom knife.:D

i dont know why, but i want it to be a fixed blade, not too big or too small, a 3-4 " blade.

the ones i have seen and loved are from michael morris knives and martin knife (the bushcraft tactical), but for sure there are mant more knife makers i am just not aware of.
the knife will be mostly used for hiking, and i don't want to end my marriage yet, so keep it under 300$.

so if you have any idea's or thoughts, it will be appreciated.

and last, martin knives use 154cm, 1095HC, s30v,s35vn steel's, which steel will be better for allpurpose blade?

thank

honestly i would go with the s35vn as they are all quite good all purpose knife steels

A member by the name of BP Green here has an Martin Knives blade. Took a couple months to make from what I recall. Maybe ask him to post some pictures and impressions of the knife?

If its Martin Knives from Texas, then I recommend them wholeheartedly. I got a folder from them and it was top notch and if I wanted I fixed blade they would be the first people I would call if I wanted a custom.

Sounds like you've already pretty much decided what you want, its just down to the blade steel.

I don't have any experience with s35vn, but I do prefer s30v over 154cm as far as edge retention/corrosion resistance. I have a couple of custom s30v pieces that are about 6 years old that I did a little grinder work on. The spots where I ground the metal hasn't corroded a bit and one of the items I carry on my key-chain every day.

Both will hold a great edge with nominal use, but if you're planning on sharpening yourself, s30v is a bit tougher, in my opinion, to sharpen than 154cm.

The harder the steel, generally, the longer the edge will last but it will be harder to resharpen when that time does come. I say generally because there are plenty of other factors like edge and bevel grinds.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase.

And be sure to post here your thoughts about it when you get it, I'm going to check out the makers you're talking about.

I recently got 3 Bark Rivers in CPMS35VN, I'm loving this steel. I like it better than CM154. Granted, I don't have exact knives in the different steels to compare, but the new CPM steels seem awesome.
Today, I also got my first custom ordered blade in the mail. It's like loosing your virginity. Scary and exciting at the same time.
Well, I can only say that Bruce Culberson, here on BF, did my Bolok, and I am quite impressed!
ML Knives, Scott Grossman, JK Knives, Justin Gingrich (Ranger) and Fiddleback Forge are also great knife makers, and plenty others around as well.

I do indeed but unfortunately I'm a little under the weather right now with the flu. Just getting up for a trip to the restroom makes my head swoon.

I apologize guys. I'll post up some pics and thoughts if I feel better tomorrow.
