Hey Porch!
For those of you who are not following along with @mrknife 's never ending GAW (now on round 12), I wanted to share this neat little knife, dedicated to our favorite place, scrimshawed by none other than r8shell r8shell

According to r8shell, this is a "practice" piece on synthetic material, so she included it in the GAW box for some lucky entrant to claim. Being the next winner, selected by cat, I had to deal with the wrenching feeling of trying to decide whether or not I was worthy of claiming such a prize.

I was immediately impressed by the intricacy of the scrimshaw on such a small knife,

and it certainly spoke to me from a sentimental point of view.

Alas, though I would be honored to keep this beauty in my possession forever, I assume there are more members on the porch who would appreciate getting ahold of this little piece of artwork, and so back into the GAW box it will go at the end of the week.

Until then, though, I plan to carry it, and, time permitting, show it off a bit around my 'hood. As seen here with a (blurry) view from my porch, er, deck.

If anyone else wants in on the GAW, check out the latest round here:

Mike I believe you to be as worthy as any other member of the Porch family to lay claim to that beauty. I do however understand your dilemma as to take it or pass it on for others to enjoy it in hand. I am a big fan of Rachel's scrimshaw work on knives. GT (5K Qs) has a great example he posts on occasion that I have secretly coveted for quite awhile. If I ever have the opportunity to own a piece of Rachel's scrimshaw art it would be very hard for me to pass on it.

Lol, cool knife and great work Rey.

Mike, nice of you to send it along but you shouldn't feel bad about keeping it. Then again, who knows, maybe you'll have a shot at another!

Gosh, y'all gunna give me a swell head! :p
Of course you're worthy, Mike. Keep it or pass it on, it's up to you.:thumbsup:

Rachel, you deserve the swelled head. That is a fantastic job on that knife!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I very rarely give five thumbs up, but this rates it.

Thanks, everyone, for the affirmation.
I am happy to pocket this for a time and then pass it along. Perhaps I will try to commission something in the future!
