Has anyone read The Protector by David Morrell? What do you think of the heavy use of the CQC-7?

Actually I kind of liked it. You could tell the author did at least a little research before writing the book. Another book that has the two lead characters using custom Emerson CQC7`s is "No Other Option" by Marcus Wynne ( a student of David Morrells). In this case both are former Special Forces, who use their knives in a more realistic way.

I thought the book was a great bit of escapist adventure. The theme of needing to control different types of fear was well done and as with all books by Morrell, the action scenes were riveting. Thanks for the heads up on Marcus Wynne Stomper. I've gotta admit the scene in which the knife is rammed into the ignition of a Ford Taurus, the handle folded to 90 degrees and cranked made me wince.

I just finished it today. I really enjoyed it. His writing style moves the reader along very quickly. He really put the CQC 7 through it's paces, especially cutting through the car roof, breaking the ignition lock, busting out the car window, and stabbing through the Kevlar vests.

I finished it the other day. Not one of his best, but the prominent use of the CQC7 was cool. If you enjoyed this book, you should read the Fifth Profession by Morrell. In my opinion it is his best...

The fifth profession was fantastic. The CQC-7 used in the Protector was a black partially serrated tanto, not sure but I don't think it was waved. If you read the intro at the beginning of the book he mentions and thanks Mr. Emerson personally.

It was a fun, fast read. The CQC7 is mentioned quite a bit and does some great stuff.

Just saw the book's dust cover today at Borders. The blood spattered CQC7 on the cover is a tanto bladed knife.

Well...the Protector is the last book I read in my book reading quest of the last year...and it was definitely the most entertaining. If you are looking for good literature, it is not it. Good old fashinoed reading for fun, this is the key...

I'm really hoping a movie is in the works for The Fifth Profession or The Protector. With all the CQC 7 action of course.

There are a few other books by Richard Marcinko in the Rogue Warrior series that he uses Emersons. In a couple of the earlier ones (I forget which) he uses a custom CQC6, and in a couple of the later ones (including his latest, Violence of Action) there is a CQC7, used to stomach-churning effect.

I liked The Protector. Any time there is a novel that keeps me riveted, I consider it an excellent read.
