I've finaly decided myslf on a benchmade griptilian!!!:D

but now the tough stuff starts, i know there are alot of variations and i need to chose.

should i go thumb stud or hole?

is it worth it to get the h20?

i really want this knife to last me a long time, i like to fish, do small bushcraft chores and this will mostly be for EDC purposes

also, does the lanyard hole fit 550 paracord??

thanks a bunch guys!! this forum rocks!!

I just got my first Benchmade today (M4 Griptilian :D ) and it is awesome. Anyway :D If you're gonna be around water, you might want to get the h20 model. The lanyard hole looks like it will fit 550 paracord, it may be tight tho. As far as the thumb stud or thumb hole, which do you prefer?

how does the x15 blade steel compare to 154cm? and tbh, i've bever used a thumb hole:s
From what I was reading, it seems like x15 holds an edge almost or as good as 154cm. 154cm is a stainless steel, but it will still rust. There are more options for the Griptilian in 154cm. If your knife is gonna get wet on a regular basis, then you should get the x15, but if its just gonna be an EDC then you should go for the 154cm, just oil it after it gets wet.

I have only used thumb studs and flippers, so I have no idea how a thumb hole feels and if its more comfortable. :o

The X15 blade might be more resistant to staining than 154cm would be, but the internal parts, Omega spring, liners, screws are the same as used in the standard Grips. So if you use the knife around salt/water in general, make sure you rinse it carefully after each use and dry the knife afterwards. A hair dryer on the low setting followed by a drop or two of lube in the area of the washers/pivot will make your knife sing for a long time.

While I prefer thumbstuds from years of using them, the thumbhole has two advantages; One, it doesn't catch on the edge of pockets. Two it allows deep slicing right up to the handles because there's nothing in the way.

The best advice on studs vs Spydie hole would be to find a local dealer in your area and go play with a couple of different models; it really helps.
