That's one sweet looking little knife. What is the handle material? I prefer the more traditional look of the 110, but I think I'll be picking up one of these if only just to keep current .

The mid-year catalog says the handle is "molded ETP" for what ever that's worth. I've had one on order for at least two months. I don't think they are out yet.

The handle is some type of thermoplastic. Pretty tough stuff. But car keys etc will mar the finish. (if its the same knife as last year)

So Joe, inquiring minds want to know, this knife looks identical to last years "Catapult" that was discontinued right after introduction because of opening issues. Is the Quickfire a re-engineered "Catapult" with Bucks ASAP technology in it? If it is, was the Catapult recalled and can I send mine back now for the Quickfire? :D

Extra
Terrestrial
Plastic from hangar 19 maybe?

Or,

ET Pooh :D

Sure someone will have a real answer soon.

Happy Halloween All!

...I was thinkin' the same thing about my Catapult that has been sittin' in it's box for ages. A swap would be a good thing...:thumbup:...:p

 Sign me up!!!!!!!!! I was wonderin' if they were ever recalled though, or just discontinued right away????

...They probably just discontinued the lil' buggers...I don't think they'd recall 'em for not working properly as long as no one got hurt by the problem. A recall would be good for those of us who bought 'em though...:p

They did resurect the Catapult with a new lock. The old Catapult lock worked fine but they thought that since there was a bit of a learning curve involved with its use, customers might not like it. The handle is a tough thermo plastic.
They were not officially recalled but there were only about 3000 made.
As soon as the have the new ones in, they will be used as replacements for the 288 Catapult.

For those of you who already have the 288 you know the opening mechanism was a little on the weak side. The new 288 has been upgraded and has a lot more kick then it used to. other then that not much has change except some logos. it will be a good every day knife and at a decent price point.

So... does this mean if a person wasn't "tickled" with the opening of the Catapult, they could send it back for the Quickfire? I like my ASAP knives ALOT! The lock isnt any different though, is it????

Yep, it was definately weak! It is still a good knife, just weak. GREAT price BTW for USA made! Shes tough!

Can anyone supply pics please?

Here's the best I can do. A screen shot of the catalog page. Bottom pict is the Catapult from 2007.

ETP stands for Engineering Thermo Plastic...really. There are a lot of different kinds of plastic just like there are lots of different kinds of steel (different types of tool steel, diferent types of stainless, etc). ETP covers a large number of plastics also, Nylon, Polyester, blah, blah, blah. ETP generally have some strength characteristics and chemical characteristics that make them suited for "use" applications not just looks.
But i personally like the Extra Terrestrial Plastic version.
