We just received our first shipment of RC-5 knives so I've had a chance to handle one but not actually use it yet.

I am interested to hear some field use reports on the RC-5.

In handling the knife, it's clear that it is a very capable knife & was designed very well. As with all of RATs products, the manufacturing quality is superb.

So... let's hear what you have to say about the RC-5!

I just got my RC-5 yesterday so i haven't had a chance to use mine yet either. From handling it it screams use me. I think it might become my favorite knife. Some other knives like Busse's are tough knives but i just seem to have a hard time abusing a $300 or more knife. That is what i love about RAT knives they are well made tough knives that you are not afraid to use.

My RC-5 just did 4 solid days on my side. It was riding in a leather pouch sheath and was backed up with a Gerber hatchet and an AG Russell woodswalker.

Batoning wood, light chopping, food prep for a family of 6 and even drove some tent stakes.

It's a really squat, thick knife but it takes a very useable edge dispite it's thickness. Comfortable handle that didn't create any hot spots even with heavy use.

I feel comfortable now saying that the 5 is my new favorite RAT, taking the top spot away from the RC-4. Only stipulation to that title is that the 5 really needs to be backed up with another, smaller blade. Izula, folder or the afore mentioned Woodswalker do nicely. The 4 can be pressed into service on the finer detail work if need be but the 5 is like trying to sew a glove with a screwdriver.

There is a passaround thread around here somewhere....and it has a lot of feedback. :)

RC 5 is my favorite blade. Probably because I love thick blades, but I really like the feel of it in hand.
