The Canadian north is a mixture of native traditional knowledge mixed with modern tech. This guy is pretty typical of the Good, Bad, and Ugly that I saw up there. A guy would typically give you the shirt off his back, but if liquored up, just as likely to put a hole in you for a perceived slight.

My wife is Filipino and did not know how to curse until she got here

There cursing is usually followed by a fight, here it can be included in "Hey, How are you?"

In Asia is is required to know how to blow horn and drive at same time, here we curse as we drive

I have known and worked outdoors with guys exactly like that and yes they can be great to work alongside and yes they can be scary when they feel offended. Things can go from busting each other's balls to a knife fight waaaay too fast for me.
