Hi Guys,
There was a lot of talk on here lately about Reate and their knives. I thought they were another knock-off company and didn't pay much attention to them. I started to notice that a lot of people were posting really positive reviews, saying things like "they flip as hard as full customs" and comparing them to $1000 - $3000 customs, to be honest this didn't sit well with me. I didn't even think they could be close to as good as ZT, much less a flipper like Shirogorov.
I have what most people consider the best flippers made (action & smoothness), Shirogorov mod 95 W/SRBS, Andre thorburn custom L51, RJ Martin Q36. I'll also throw in production ZTs & ZT LEs. So, i decided I would get Reate's new Hills to try out for myself.
I contacted Reate through this forum and asked for a custom Hills anodized burnt bronze, I wanted the HW untouch so I can do heat anodizing myself (I have a shade of bronze/gold I like). I ordered about 2 weeks ago and just got it today. Throughout the whole order process, Reate's team was unbelievable in the customer service department, they kept me updated and responded right away.
If you have read any of my post in knock-offs/counterfeits, you will know how strongly I am against them. With that said, Reate is not one of those companies. Reate is legit and quite frankly on the same level as ZT as far as quality.
I am beyond impressed with the Hills. I took it apart to anodized and put it back together 2x and each time it was perfectly centered and flipped exactly the same. There are $1500 customs I have that don't do that. Everything is legit about this knife and the flipping action is insane. This pains me but, it flips as hard as my Shirogorov, Thorburn, ZT 0888 & ZT 0454. The sound is tremendous and there is recoil. Its not as smooth as them, but just as fast. Every detail is correct, they even broke all the edges and the anodizing was spot on. Blade was sharp, about the same as my ZTs.
I was ready to blast away at Reate and some members on here, expecting a poor knife. I just figured they didn't have the customs I do to compare with. I was completely wrong and I apologize to Reate for not being fair to them.
When Reate comes out with a new model, I won't hesitate to buy one if I like the design. Reate is a real up and coming company and I can't say enough good things about them and their knives.
