The real reason I own a Hilter knife

I'm not going to be professional about this and I'm going to be brief:

I see a lot of beautiful, vintage daggers that have gorgeous handles that have swatzikas on them. At first, I thought it was sort of discusting to see that sign. But after I thought about it, I had to get one. The whole reason I love knives is the fact that such an important tool has such a cultural tie to people and ideas. It only makes sense that a swatzika would have in some point be put on a knife, because it is the most widely used tool. The symbol is a direct link between cultural ties and strong beliefs and knives. I think it's wonderful that cultures put their culture and beliefs on a knife. It's just a fascinating thing to me.

So, I see a Hitler knife. Same theory...

Not close to racist... just interested...

Nothing wrong with owning German military knives. Many people collect them. Many people collect KKK knives: doesn't make them racist either.

This is not pertinent to Custom Forum. Being moved to the general blade discussion forum.

I collect Third Reich memorabilia, I have been for about 9 years now. I feel no guilt or need to explain collecting such things. If anything, they are a part of history

If you're gonna collect this stuff(I dont) you need to do some studying. There's an awful lot of fakes out there, especially with the youth knives.

Once you disassociate the the political proganda, and the anti-semitic beliefs from them, the German knives are quite beautiful pieces of design/workmanship(the firearms also).

But, as Dave stated, you've got to watch out for fakes, as they've been faked since practically the end of W.W.II. There's also quite the big business in parts swappping now, too.

Don't worry Joseph, most of us with more than an ounce of common sense, arn't ignorant enough to associate collecting war memorabilia with the collector's actually holding the political and social views prevalent at the point in history from which the relic dates. That's a tool of the politically correct thought police, who seek to shame the world into capitulation. Despite the Jessie Jacksons, and Marian Quomo's of the world, I won't limit this the liberal thought police, because the conservative have their thought police too. Just don't be afraid to stand in defiance of anyone who would attempt this, for they in their own way, are as opressive as any NAZI. They just use shame to intimidate people, instead of guns. Their weekness is, they can't manipulate anyone who isn't insecure enough to be ashamed in the face of their rhetoric. What should I care if someone who seeks a reason to take offence, finds what they seek? I rejoice when they do, for I never sought their approval.

Mr. Braddy, if you wish to criticize someone, and those are two worthy subjects for criticism, do try to get their names correct. The latter's name is MariO Cuomo, either father or son.

And for those interested in a Holbein or Swiss Dagger, the type that the SA and SS used, but without the NAZI association, please try Lutel in the Czech Republic, http://www.lutel.cz/index2e.htm, on the "Dagger" page of their catalogue. The numbers are 10022 and 10023 and they have 10.2" and 11" blades, respectively, although they both cost the same, 4300 Czech koruny or $146.513 at the 2/26/03 11:00AM exchange rate. I just received one of their French Daggfers, #10005, and have been pretty much impressed with it for the money that it cost. The work in the blade is superb, that in the hilt/pommel area is not so superb, showing some very small gaps, but well within expectations for the cost. I have to remind myself that the sword that I bought for $240 last year was a really, really good buy and that it remains so even at $340. That is the Roman Riding Sword from TEMPL, also in the Czech Republic. The workmanship on it is at the extremely good custom level for which one would likely pay $600 or so for the sword without a scabbard, and TEMPL included a very nicely done scabbard of light-weight wood covered in leather with bronze throat, chape, and scabbard slide. The French dagger has a leather sheath of period design with a steel throat.

I think that's a cool peice of history if it is an original. I am Jewish and don't take any offense to someone buying/collecting stuff like that. That symbol (which I can't spell properly) wasn't a kill the jews, Nazi, I'm evil hear me roar symbol. It was actually something good, but I can't recall where it came from. I just remembered hearing about it on AFN (Armed Forces Network) while I was stationed overseas. Just because the Nazi's wore it doesn't make anyone a bad person for collecting stuff like that. It's an important part of history. Congrats on your find.

So what one(s) do you own?

Taylor Hitler folder, is often seen. So is the Nazi "german youth knife".

I often find these type of knives on ebay. There quite interesting, I have loads of images of "kkk knife".
