Okay Suspects, here's the real deal on the Super Commander.
I just got off the phone with Ernie Emerson about 5 minutes ago. Before I say anything else, I want to take a moment to point out that all the great things I've heard about Ernie are true. He's a hell of a nice guy, and a straight shooter.
That said, here are some salient points about the much discussed Super Commander.
These are not Ernie's words, but rather his statements paraphrased by myself.
Right now, the Super Commander is not at the top of the priority list. EKI is currently working almost around the clock on "other commitments." For an idea of what those might be, consider the events of 9/11 and how following events might affect EKI. (Circumspect enough?)
At the moment, the Super Commander has not entered even the first phase of production. It is little more than a drawing on paper so far.
Disregard pretty much everything you've heard about it to date, except for the most general description of size.
There will be some manufacturing differences between the Super Commander and the current Commander. For a hint of what these may be, he suggested taking a look at the Mini-Commander.
Ernie expressed a great deal of interest in our concerns, both personally and from a business standpoint.

So what's my personal take on the whole issue?
Well first of all, I'm definitely NOT going to cancel my order for that HC/OD Super Commander! (I only wish I'd ordered two!)
We're just going to have to trust Ernie to do what he's always done, and that is to build great knives.
So feel free to speculate, but if someone tells you "The Super Commander will have "this" feature or "that" attribute, don't believe it. The word from The Man himself as of this morning is, "Nobody knows yet."
I'll admit, since our conversation this morning, I have great hopes for the SC, and I believe that Ernie's going to do everything he can to see those hopes realized.
Thanks again to you Derek, and once more, my thanks to Ernie himself for taking so much time out of his very busy schedule to talk to me about the issue.
