I was wondering if any collectors out there have knowledge of the really old Buck knives made during WW2 for the troops or even the knives made before that?Does anybody out there own one or have photos?:)

If I recall, Joe Houser has a MOST enviable collection of the OLD Bucks with the colored handles.

Two of the collectors on this forum that have very extensive collections of the knives that you are looking for are HKINGDOM and EVIL EYE EARL. If they don't have it, it probably didn't exist.

Joe Houser attended 2010 OKCA with a terrific display of yesteryear Bucks:

Ask and you shall receive.

Otherwise, get thee to a show. I invite everyone, you know who you are, to this year's OKCA in Eugene, Oregon in mid-April.

Thank you all. All of these were made in the middle to late 40s and 50s. There are not too many photos of the earlier ones made before and during WW2.

Here are a couple more. The long lignum made knife made around 1955 and the barbecue set made 1947-48.

WOW!! Is right. That is a MOST incredible collection of vintage Bucks HKINGDOM.

Thanks for showing them,
Peter

Whose counting? I am!!! If you count the axe and knife sets and the barbecue set each as one, HK posted 76 of the old knives. I said it here many times and I'll say it again---HK is the go to man for the oldies!!!

HK: you posted those pictures some long time ago and I copied them at that time. I doubt that a week passes without my going back and admiring that museum quality collection.

This is a fantastic reference in case someone spots a pre 60 Buck for sale somewhere.

HK, Incredible ! I see some evolution here on some of these old models . How much time between the lignum and the black phenolic ? Thank you so much for posting these early models . DM

Thank you David. There is a lot of evolution in these models. From what I understand, the lignum-vitae handles were first used in the early 50s and then discontinued around 1955-56.The ebony and elk was used from 1956-61.

HK, Thanks . So, about 10yrs.. I'm seeing some slight changes in the 110 skinner . Guys, not only does he have the knives all in good shape . He has all their correct sheaths too ! Have you noticed how nice shape those are in as well ? DM
