I was just looking at pictures in the picture thread and in the scavenger hunt thread and I've spent all day frollicking across sand dunes and beaches with my BK11 and my Izula in my pocket and backpack respectively, and decided I need a BK13 or two. I've been around saltwater all day and while I'm not worried about my 1095 knives I will probably have some rust to clean off of them when I can. I thought a 13 would be nice to toss in the pocket and not worry about. And of course, it's a Becker I don't have already.

Could you guys tell me what sorts of things you've used these little guys for, and post some pictures of them?

I'll probably get another BK11 too, since I'm ordering anyways and I love the 11.

It works as tableware. :)

Removed the finger guard and added some Mammoth bone scales. My son wears this as a necker in one of my custom kydex sheaths.

It worked to cut my thumb when I was in a hurry and tried to yank it out of its very-tight-fitting sheath in a hurry. Healing nicely though. :)

Here's mine in brown canvas micarta. I have a matching leather sheath for it, but no pics.

Here's one in homemade denim micarta I helped a friend make.

I love my Remora. It's sharp, slicey, tough (duh, it's a becker!) and it looks great.
The thing I like about it most is that its within my workplace's blade length restrictions so I can carry a fixed blade at work.
I use mine to cut up apples and vegetables on break for snacks and to make sandwiches at home.
I've used it for a fair amount of spoon carving as well, using scrap pallet boards on my last break of the day.

I made a beginner knife for my 3 & 1/2 year old daughter with one. Hot pink 550 wrapped handle, ground the edge off and blunted the tip. She thinks she's got a Bowie knife!

There she is on the bottom. The 7 and black handled 16 are a friend's. Rest are mine. Works ok with no handles, even better when held by holding on its side and pinching between thumb on pointer finger. Keep mine in the 9 sheath but works great as neck knife too. At $23 new it is the easiest Becker to own.

Never really gave the Remora much thought...
I spent most of my knife-collecting career buying budget blades...not total crap-ola mind you, just nothing very nice.
When I first found Beckers I kind of turned my nose up at the 13, thinking, "been there, done that".
Reading the comments here and seeing the pics has made me re-think that attitude...I guess I'll just have to add one on when I buy the BRK, (my next knife purchase, I'm saving my pennies...)

I was having a serious think about this knife, then I realised it was hollow ground. That's a deal breaker for me, I don't want to fiddle around trying to sharpen it. Double bevel for me, all the way.

There's not much fiddling to sharpening a hollow ground knife as far as I know. I've got plenty and they just sharpen on a stone like...every other knife

They are very easy to sharpen and are handy little knives. I have a few around here somewhere... I keep losing them buying replacements and then finding the ones I lost lol. I have one in the sheath with my 9 and another in the small pouch on the shoulder strap of my hiking pack.

I work in a cleanroom environment 12 hours a day, and I keep thinking that the Remora would be great at opening packages while staying "sterile". Now to convince the higher ups, lol... probably not gonna happen.

I love stainless steel for food prep

This little bastard takes a edge real well at 15 degrees, but even better at 17 degrees and holds it like a champ..as you can see i like it stock with a little lanyard just to fit the hand perfectly.

Hmm, so no problem sharpening it on the Sharpmaker? Might need to reconsider! I don't own any Beckers yet, and I do like a good neck knife. This is the about the same length as my CRKT Falcon, which has been a real handy little knife. A Becker would probably be a step up.

You should have no problems sharpening it on a Sharpmaker.
None at all.

Does anyone do handles for these?

Professionally? Negative. As far as I know no one does them professionally.

It is a great DIY project though. I've done some and they turned out great. In fact, I'm planning on buying another one to do up in aged bone G10 with some dark red micarta pins for carry on special occasions.

The remora is a great project to get your feet wet in the knife handling sense. It doesn't cost you an arm and a leg and the end result is a surprisingly useful little knife!

the new all made in the usa models are handy little scalpels...

stick them in your altoids and every pouch

mostly stainless, it takes a lot to make them discolor

pretty damn handy really. i have something like 10-16 deployed all over, and sometimes i use them for delicate jobs or as a spare for someone that has no knife

sometimes i give them away to smalls, who need a safe knife, with parental permission and permission of course
