Alright, I've generated a short list of potential replacements for my Blue Bump. Please weigh in on one of them, or feel free to suggest another knife along these lines (pictures appreciated).

Gravitator 425. I wouldn't get it with a black blade. Benefits. Silver twill and good G10 texturing. Need a wharnie. Awesome customesque attention to detail. Cheap.

Voorhies model 6. Love silver twill. Beautiful, custom. 250 dollars, wayyy more expensive than some alternatives. Don't like that the edge doesn't go all the way down to the handle. Only ATS34.

Spyderco%20Spyker%20C96GP.jpg

Spyker. Close spiritual connection to lost Bump. S30V. Silver twill. Finger Choil. Very curvy. Feels weird to my hand though.

Kris. Hyper exotic. A little too big. I don't like lockbacks.

Strider RCC. Finger choil, S30V. Overpriced. I've seen the maker act like a jerk before...and the quality isn't that reputable. But supposedly the toughest out there (as if it mattered to me). It'd be nice to have something from Strider.

Mcusta Take. Beautiful damascus everything. VG10 blade core. I really the like bamboo inspired handle. Moderately priced (a little less than 150). I'm not a fan of SS handles though (and while I visually love wood handles, which Mcusta is good with, I don't like to carry them for some reason).

I like that strider. Seems to be a good size to carry, and a lower price than most of their stuff. -Still pretty expensive though. I also like the spyker, and the persain by spyderco which is similar to that kriss, but with a more useful shape.

Sounds to me like you're already set on the BM- good choice IMHO. I've been feeling the urge to check out a wharnie too, and you sure can't go wrong with BM for bang/buck. I'd prefer an Axis lock, but, oh well!

I was looking at the BM 426 myself, just prefer the drop point, the 425 is nice too though. Good quality for a reasonable price.

You lost your blue bump? That's rough, one of my favorite production knives out there. Sorry to hear it.
Edit: Ah, now I read the thread about it being dropped. Well, at least you got paid for it, not a total loss.

Good luck finding a replacement that will ease the pain.

That 425 appeals to me the most, but the Voorhies is still gorgeous.

Have you looked at the BM/HK 14200?

Of all of the contenders you presented........I like the Voorhies best. That's just me, though. I don't mind the ricasso on the blade...the styling more than makes up for any small loss in cutting legenth. The knife is.......well.....elegant. Definitely in the same league as the Bump you are attempting to replace.

If you would like a another knife to consider I propose the Mcusta VG-10 Damascus Quince wood folder........if you lined the Bump, Voorhies, and Mcusta up side-by-side and forced me to just pick one......I would hesitate making a choice.

You're absolutely right on the Mcusta. Actually, I had intended to put a Mcusta Take up there and just forgot. I'll add it in now.

...just looked at that Strider, again......Lord it looks STOUT !! Its the kind of folder you'd wanta grab if you were "gearing-up" for a Klingon invasion. Jeez !

-best !

I hope there is a clip on that Mcusta Take, because the pouch is hideous :S
.....I believe there is one made with a clip and one without. The "clip-less" model comes with the "pouch" you admire so much. There is a "special" being offered at this time.........buy either model and get a matching kimono made from the same material as the pouch.......no doubt sales will be brisk ! :D

-regards

I like the Voorhies the best too!! That knife IS stunning!! Absolutely stunning!!

Can you link me to the clipped one when you get a chance? I realized that it didn't have a clip (this particular place) and really, a clip is a necessary part of my choice.

I'm very, very fond of my BM 425. (Not as fond as I am of my sister who gave it to me, but hey. :) )

From my point of view, the 425's only real drawback is the tip-down only clip, and if you're replacing a Bump, that's probably a good point rather than a drawback to you!

I've been a Snody-cliffe fan for a while - Yojimbo, Ronin - and for my hand the Gravitator has the best feel of the lot. Great ergos, smooth, fast action, solid lock-up from the almost framelock thick liners.

And there are limited editions with things like wood scales and the twill bolsters.

Let me put it like this - I have a mistrust of production linerlocks, and a dislike of tip-down carry, and my 425 is one of my most-carried EDCs.

Hell, why don't I loan you mine for a week? I think that would sell you for sure. :D
