The respect

Will it be Sal's last knife? I was interested in it before it came out, I'm not interested in it now. Do not like the steel, do not like the hilt not being brass. For a big spyderco the dao and schempp rock are much better.

Damn that is a gorgeous knife. There goes my money.

I want to get one of these, either grind the guard flat against the sides of the knife or remove it altogether.

Then replace the brass nub the retaining strap goes on with a bigger one so I can drop the sheath in waist band and have the nub hang off my belt.

How is the sheath retention without the retaining strap?

The sheath retention is good, but it is a new sheath so may loosen up.

I heard someone say that Sal took the retaining strap off his knife and just wears it tucked under the belt.

Yeah I might not even have to put a bigger brass nub. I have been anticipating this one for a while.

Well, thankfully we live in a country where we can be entitled to our own opinion!

R Reject thanks for the great fotos!

I like it a lot.

...is there still tang exposed at the throat of the sheath when the Respect's fully inserted?

I would like it a whole lot more if the heel wasn't so dang abruptly cut off.

And looks like the top half of the guard is longer than the bottom half of the guard...that looks kinda backwards as to what I'm used to...and functionally, why would it be designed that way?

Where the ricasso transitions into handle looks unbalanced visually....the lines kinda don't match up.

Minor aesthetic quibbles for me that keep it from being a personal bases-clearing Grand Slam >>> still a two-run homer that should be a great user and "will buy."

The original design without those excessive screws is just looks miles better for me...

Hadn't noticed that - is the top of the guard longer? That would be weird.
Really cool design and undoubtedly made to the exacting standards that Taichung is known for.

It looks like it but..but maybe it's caused by other things that look off-balance

Sorry I notice things like this but my first job out of high school was trimming out houses and then custom cabinets and my eye is drawn to corners and seams on EVERYTHING...I know, it's a disorder, or so says my wife.

But the lines of the ricasso/tang junction look all cattywampus to me...and it looks like it may even affect the sheath fitment, too...there's an awful lot of guard hanging off one edge of the leather, but comes up short on the other side, and there's what looks like a gap where I can see steel at the throat of the sheath.

Maybe the hidden tang isn't aligned along the midline of the knife and it's thrown everything else off kilter...I dunno.o_O

Strange, but the proto pic S shqxk posted up appears to have a more aligned blade/tang/handle....

On the Spyderco forum, member legOFwhat asked for some in hand photos.

I wear a large size glove.

There is a lot steel used to make this knife, yet every time I pick it up I am amazed at how light it feels in the hand.

There something about this knife; o_O don’t really know how to explain it.
The way it feels in the hand, that crazy thick blade stock, that wickedly pointy blade tip.
Put it into that minimal black sheath; tuck under my your belt.
I get this feeling of; ok world, now I’m ready, bring it on.

I know,:( silly, an illusion; :) but it just seems to bring an air of capability and confidence with it.
